LI welcomes today's agreement between the UK and Mauritius to bring to an end the colonial status of the Chagos islands, in line with the Advisory Opinion of the @CIJ_ICJ. Going forward, Chagossians themselves must be included in the negotiations over the return to their home.

A small point of clarification: as watchers of the Veto Initiative or the ACT Code of Conduct may suspect, LI isn't a fan of the veto - and we don't think giving it to others will help. So, no veto expansion.

@Arbeider4Fred So the PGA has discretion on this matter based on his reading. As the ESS meets within 10 working days of the possible veto, it could fulfill that provision for each of the vetoes on the situation. But again, just my opinion, and certainly context-specific.

@pass_blue Hi there - so, under OP1 res 76/262, there will be either a GA plenary meeting or Emergency Special Session meeting in the next 10 working days. A GA res can't mandate a State to speak at that meeting, but OP2 does 'accord precedence in the list of speakers' to the vetoing State.
