@ScottGoldstein@mehdirhasan Some people would rather have Trump in office and be able to yell about how bad things are than have things be relatively good and boring.
@mattyglesias Dolan sitting on stage at the championship parade like he was waiting at the DMV and they lost his ticket…how can you be that rich and still be that miserable?
@AndyMasley The Joe Rogan of the Left. I personally find Oliver more noxious but they are close. Somehow Oliver has won 10 Emmys. This timeline is cursed.
@LGBTQPete Hmm. I think her failure to throw Biden under the bus for inflation and immigration was pretty obviously her biggest mistake.
Most voters don’t even know who the VP candidates were.
@RollingStone@tmorello Morello can feel like he’d just as soon have Trump be president as Harris. He has a right to his opinion.
I’d just prefer he crawl into a hole after that because I don’t want to hear any of his other opinions.
@joni_askola It’s more than the money. Biden wanted Ukraine to win. He gave moral support. Intelligence. Rallied allies. The kind of things the person we called the leader of the free world used to do.
@mattyglesias Good news for Team ABB (Anyone But Bass)!
Who knows what Raman can do but nobody has worked harder to do less than Bass. LA needs a change.
@paulnovosad This is what standardized tests are for. To tell parents if their kid’s school is any good.
Of course, when last we tried this it turned out most parents preferred not knowing if the schools were any good.
Maybe the pendulum will swing back now?
@Austen FWIW, NYC teacher probably SHOULD be paid more in salary. But they should also probably have smaller benefits (health and pension) and less job security.
@CharlotteAlter@NYCMayor The single thing would be to build more places to live to keep housing costs low. But yes the second thing would be improving the schools.
@omnicronicles@jonathanchait@nhannahjones Article says “economically disadvantaged and Black students both make up larger shares of the charter population than of the district population”.
Gimmie more of that selection bias please! All NYC kids who want to go to a charter school should have that option.
@MattZeitlin We tried putting pressure on administrators with NCLB, and it worked! Schools could be taken over. It lit a fire under principals and teachers. We had years of evidence that schools were improving...
...and then we decided that's not what we wanted after all and just dropped it.
@NatPurser What bothers me is she doesn’t share that the schools her daughter went to actually had incredibly high per pupil spending.
The question I wish she was asking is why we aren’t getting better outcomes from all the money we’re spending on public education?
@NatPurser I don’t think that’s fair to NHJ.
Most parents think beyond where the best Math teachers are when picking a school. Her decision framework is different than mine but I respect that she has one.
