It's a hidden engineering marvel that the water pipeline has to climb up and down 27 hill cones as it crosses 7 main hill ridges through a national park to reach Marsabit town from the Bakuli springs weir system. The line runs along the contours hence the rise and drop.

Sometimes elephants uproot the pipeline and the maintenance team has to trace and repair with the help of KWS rangers.

Once a tractor driver taking fuel to the source was surrounded by elephants, as he desperately removed and threw away his white shirt in a bid to be less visible and divert their senses to the shirt!

Whenever it rains, access is very difficult since some of the hills are as steep as nearly 60⁰. In the days of LR109, the yellow knob (diff lock) came in handy. Just push it down like an emergency stop in case the car starts slipping!
