The max payout for soc sec is $62k per year. For two income earners that’s $125k paid by the federal government annually. I have zero problem helping out the genuinely poor, but that is genuinely insane. Adding a 12.5% flat tax on income to perpetuate that system is crazier.
At first glance, most Americans say they would support increasing Social Security taxes to avoid benefit cuts for seniors. Yet attitudes shift dramatically when discussing tax increases in concrete dollars and cents.
77% would oppose raising their own taxes even $1,300 per year, according to a recent Cato Institute/YouGov poll.
