This plaque dedicated to service linguists is at Bomber Command near Lincoln (UK). A friend was there today and sent me this photo. Coincidentally I was at Bletchley Park last week, where I learned about the valuable contribution of translators in WW2
@Claire_Cox16@METMeetings I like Duolingo. It helped prepare me for a holiday in Italy a few years ago and I've kept it up. I hope you have a lovely time in San Sebastián, Claire, and good luck with the Spanish!
"Translate. Transfer. Transform." Das diesjährige Motto der Frankfurter Buchmesse stellt das Übersetzen in den Mittelpunkt. Ehrengast ist Spanien mit seiner "creatividad desbordante". https://t.co/RPoxLEXM5m
After almost 4 years, I finally got there! This doesn't mean that I can now translate from Italian - it takes a lot more than a Duolingo course - but I've been happy to find that I can have a conversation and read simple Italian. Very satisfying!
It’s come to my attention that ALL the Brighton mysteries are currently 99p on Kindle. So, if you haven’t discovered the theatrical world of Max Mephisto, now’s your chance before they disappear…

Sorry to bang on but I really don't want your kindness to go to waste. Sending food and meds across EU is highly complex even for Experts and nigh on impossible for hugely mixed loads of generous donated items. It is better to donate to @DECappeal so they coordinate the need 1/3
We have the potential to help a lot of people. But we need to raise funds to get us there. If you can, please consider donating to our emergency fund: https://t.co/oDLpGMOYHY
We had an enjoyable walk and picnic today at the RSPB, Sandy, with fellow members of the @ITIUK NHC regional group. Always good to get together with other translators!
@Claire_Cox16 I booked online and got both dates. Last week, had a phone call from the GP surgery offering a 2nd jab a week earlier than the online appointment. Declined, sticking to the original plan which is a more convenient time
@deanevansxl8@JoachimLepine@FrenchNet_ITI Looking forward to catching up with the recording. My broadband went down just before the session started. Useful to have time to go over notes from earlier sessions though.
Day 2 of #ITIConf21 has been inspiring! Well done and thank you to all the presenters and panellists. The German translation slam was a particular highlight. Kudos!
