Main roads are maiming roads when it comes to pedestrian and cycle casualties. It why authorities all over the world are setting 20mph and 30km/h as the right speed limit where motors mix with people. And the heavier the traffic the bigger the saving of lives and bodies.
@cyclegaz Trust? Never. But most drivers around here give way at side roads now, which is nice. But there's always one incompetent and it only takes one to run you over, so I continue to be cautious.
@stendec6@cyclegaz Doesn't matter. Bad drivers will overtake and hook a rider in front if physically possible. Some will even ram them if not. Until roads policing is improved, none are safe.
Now do Active Travel!
[Index linked 10 year commitment for £50 per head per year (£35 ringfenced to infrastructure) provided to councils with
@activetraveleng spending oversight.]
Disappointed @JamesOWild doesn't mention the active travel projects. They seem to have been quietly sidelined after a few (but not all) disability-discriminating barriers were removed from cycleways. Lynn has done the hard bit and made a LCWI Plan. Please give it some funding!
@bbc5live The slogan was "long-term decisions" but Rishi has now dithered #HS2 to death and replaced it with a rag bag of short term schemes. And I don't even live near HS2. This harms confidence in all long term infrastructure projects
Many thousands of hours has gone into trying to improve on the humble Sheffield Stand.
After trying to park my bike recently using a “wheel bender” rack, I’m reminded that no one has - and likely never will - come close to beating the simplicity of its design. 🧵
@TheSolarShed I think that comes from customer requests. If MCS didn't accredit cowboys-who-do-good-paperwork or were more helpful/useful in disputes, maybe fewer customers would be unhappy with them being required?
What an odd attitude.
I'm a 'free person' who owns a car but also values having public transport, and would like safer streets to cycle, and I mostly walk day-to-day.
The less I depend on the car, the more options I have! Don't free people want choice?
@Drivetheplan@LeShuttle_Help They did that when I travelled. There seems to be no penalty during disruption for simply driving past the terminal car park and jumping into the loading queue for an earlier delayed train.
In case you've heard news today about our glorious PM touting the wonders of 'Carbon Capture and Storage' it's a non functioning technology that has been pushed for the last 10 years by the fossil fuel industry. It's ridiculously expensive and doesn't work.
ie, it's a lie.
This is a brilliant response by @jonburkeUK.
- LTNs are vote winners.
- Address traffic on main roads.
- Recognise cars on our roads have doubled to 41 million over the last 30 years
- Residents living in LTNs reduce car trips made and car ownership
@julianchronicle@dach_tweets@LeShuttle_Help Think part of problem is overloaded border, plus people proceeding before called with no punishment. We got a U hanger out, boarded among V, X &W with 2h delay. C hanger back and could see D and E around us, but no delay
