@JonahInWales Catholics consider marriage both a sacrament and a juridical situation. It requires “canonical form”. It’s invalid for lack of form if a Catholic contracts their marriage via an unapproved minister.

@frjohnwhiteford At first, I have to admit, I thought the photo was just an unfortunate angle and that it was just showing the choir area. From the other angle, yeah, they have fewer people than I expect to see this Sunday when most families at our small parish are going to be on vacation.
@AngloVarangian Marriage and Confession specifically require proper jurisdiction, or “faculties” which the pope can withhold. Within a single diocese, a bishop can “reserve” absolution for certain sins. Murder is one of these but they usually allow parish priests to absolve for abortion.
