Steve Jobs on the most important job of a CEO
“The greatest people are self-managing. They don’t need to be managed. Once they know what to do, they’ll go figure out how to do it… What they need is a common vision, and that’s what leadership is. Leadership is having a vision, being able to articulate that so the people around you can understand it, and getting consensus on a common vision.”
Steve continues:
“We wanted people who were insanely great at what they did… and the neatest thing that happens when you get a core group ten great people is that it becomes self-policing as to who they let into that group. So I consider the most important job of someone like myself is recruiting.”
Hey @gmail team!
When are you adding the mention feature to your iPhone app? Outlook has it, but using theirs is like eating soup with a fork. Don’t let them win this one!
Will land and expand on “Always keep learning” - keep iterating and break down big ideas into small yet shippable features. This list is gold but easier said than done when you are executing product. Make it your checklist when building products to remember those daily 👇

When we Shape things up, we'll often add a section called something like "What we're not doing". Every idea doesn't need it, but it's nice to note some of the no's, not only the yesses, when detailing an idea we're about to build.
Simple definitions for product managers

Tricks for product managers to get 5x more work done every week.
As product managers, if you're always overwhelmed, fighting fires, and chasing timelines, you are doing it WRONG.
10 things (in no particular order) you should do to keep your day/week productive:
Focus
Focus is about doing less, not more. At any given time do one thing. But focus 100% on it.
Say NO
Say NO to low ROI tasls, so you have more time to think about (and do) high ROI tasks.
Deep work
Have 3-4 deep-work slots every week. Ensure 0 distractions, and full concentration. If you do it right, you will get more done in one hour than you do in a week.
Be an excellent communicator
90% of our time is spent communication. 50% of documents + meetings are a result of bad communication. If you communicate well, you will have all the time in the world.
Build transparency
Transparency helps keeping people aligned. Alignment helps reduce open questions, adhoc meetings, and low ROI tasks.
Data is your saviour
Know your data better than anyone else. It will save you from every tough situation. It will make you stronger. It will build credibility. It will cut short useless-opininon-based discussions.
Learn from experts
Learn from experts the tricks to tackle challenges. Use tricks to do your job better and faster.
Get feedback
You might think you're doing well , but you will often be wrong. Get feedback for a reality check. And to understand what you're actually doing well.
Do what you do well
Focus 60-70% of the week on tasks that you're good at. It keeps motivation, happiness levels high, and that allows you to achieve more in the week.
Teach / coach
When you teach, you learn. When you learn, you do thing faster. Share what you know. Help other PMs/team members get better at what they do.

What would you add to the list?
You can do big things with small teams, but it’s hard to do small things with big teams. And small is often plenty. That’s the power of small — you do what needs to be done rather than overdoing it.

The rate of change happening in AI is unlike any other tech trend we’ve seen. In the 90s we had to wait for everyone to get on the web. In the 2000s we had to wait for everyone to get smartphones. Now any progress spreads instantly to all users and developers.
I don't see this extending to the MENA (specifically GCC) VC market. Perhaps it's just latency, but there are good reasons to believe that there's built-in economic resilience in the region
The Banking Business Model and Meme Stocks: 🧵
tl:dr
Thesis: SVB is not an isolated incident. Banking’s fundamental business model does not work in the digital era. /1
Where is Powell? Where is Yellen? Stop this crisis NOW. Announce that all depositors will be safe. Place SVB with a Top 4 bank. Do this before Monday open or there will be contagion and the crisis will spread.
Crazy day. After 22 years between SVB and FRB, I'm still at shock. My wife also works at SVB right now.
The news today was huge, and here is what I've pieced together across 100's of conversations yesterday/today.
