I just learned a coding curriculum for Kindergartens thanks to https://t.co/T9UUmkSPJV !! What an interactive and exciting way to introduce students to computational thinking 💻🧠 #hourofcode#edtech#EDUC387510
@miss_sirianni @DrPorcher Hey Miss Sirianni. I 100% agree. I think that being an effective teacher for diverse students truly starts with teaching yourself!! We must unlearn our biases and educate ourselves about different cultures.
@missbogusz @DrPorcher Yes!! I think this goes along with, “if you see something, say something”. Allowing any anti-black comments to occur in classroom settings is extremely harmful because it will continue if we don’t shut it down immediately.
@DrPorcher It’s so important to me to include Black students in all of my teachings. From using materials that highlight Black culture to teaching and accepting AAVE in the classroom. It’s my responsibility to provide a good educational experience to my students of color #teacheredumatters
@kerrickkenna @DrPorcher I agree with this Mackenna!! I think a lot of the bias we hold is learned from our ancestors/people who raised us and the bias they held. Becoming aware of this will contribute to a better, more accepting society
@StephGaynor2 @DrPorcher I agree with you!! This discrimination caused by linguistic racism is something that has been engrained in our conscience. We need to reteach and relearn before anything changes within our system.
@DrPorcher One way that Anti-Blackness has been woven into my understanding of teaching grammar is my prior belief that there is one correct way to speak English. I now know that is not true and that I should respect and encourage diverse vernaculars, such as AAVE. #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher @dr_s_bertrand Hello!! I’m Chloe Castro. I’m a sophomore at University of Delaware studying elementary education and concentrating in middle school English 😊 #teacheredumatters
The word I would remove from our definition of grammar is “guidelines”. While I do think grammar should be structured, I do not believe there should be guidelines restricting the way our student communicate #teacheredumatters
Check out my virtual field trip to Historic Philadelphia, PA!! Creating this field trip provided me with the skills to make more field trips for my future students. Such an interactive, immersive activity. #UD387510 https://t.co/W66h9105Mp
#digitalcitizenship is not only about teaching students their responsibilities as internet users, but also their rights. We need to be making sure that students are comfortable and feel confident navigating the internet!! #UD387510 😄
#sketchnote of the day - Ss should never be made to be afraid of using #tech & being online - However, they must learn key skills in order to navigate online spaces safely - Ask yourself if your Ss can do the behaviours in the sketchnote - #edtech#digitalcitizenship#edtechchat
@WMGhaha Using “reminds me of” thinking, like Julianna said, is very effective. I also think you could simply applaud the student for their relatable ideas. “Great thinking here, it is very relatable to (whoever it’s relatable to)”… #396FlynnS22
@FaithONeil15 ..the ideas of the paragraph. There are many more examples of questions we can ask students in the Dean article that could absolutely be of use to students who aren’t providing in-depth, useful feedback to their peers! #396FlynnS22
@FaithONeil15 Great question Faith!! I think we as teachers need to provide questions that are thought provoking in order to elicit useful feedback. Something I saw in the Dean article was to ask students to evaluate a topic sentence based on its ability to focus on the.. #396FlynnS22
