Hilarious: Trump admin is torn between those who say Moderna's flu trial was unethical because it didn't use a high-dose vaccine as comparator, exposing participants to "increased risk of severe illness," and those who say it was unethical because it didn't use an inert placebo! https://t.co/LhEnzBp9Xp
Here the Moderna flu data the FDA refused to review.
This is the most important slide from the company's study of its experimental flu vaccine-- exactly the data FDA said it wouldn't even review.
And below is a thread of relevant slides from that presentation and links to other relevant studies I wanted to bookmark. (I'm a reporter who covers this stuff.)🧵1/14
HER2+ breast cancer study identifies 9 biomarkers behind lapatinib resistance:
SCIN, EGFR, TPM1, CALD1, PCP4, AKR7A3, KRT81, HPGD, FASN.
7 of these are new to HER2+ resistance biology.
Multi-omics shows resistant cells shut down most genes but keep these activated → more invasion + aggressiveness.
Big step toward biomarker-guided therapies. 🔬✨ #BREASTCANCER #HER2 #Oncology

I fear the public will never truly realize the immense damage done to our scientific research system and its consequences. A loss of ~$4.5 billion in frozen or cancelled grants with at least 148 impacted clinical trials = 138,000 patients due to be enrolled or already enrolled.
This is a big advance, folks. We've never had a disease-modifying drug for this devastating inherited disease

Science delivers medicines, clean air and water, safe food, and smarter choices—saving billions of lives. Proposed cuts to @NIH and @NSF would shutter labs, stall new cures, hurt our economy, and send future scientists elsewhere. Hear from patients saved by science: https://t.co/XyJ6JEXUXi. This is a major story from #ASCO25. Randomized phase 3 trial of time of day of immunotherapy infusion. Randomized to infusion before or after 3pm. Early infusion far superior: PFS 11.3 vs 5.7 HR 0.42, OS HR 0.45! Impactful, pragmatic, not costly. This should be a bigger story.
Scientists, researchers, and advocates recently gathered in Washington, D.C. for the Stand Up for Science rally. Voices from Johns Hopkins and across the globe spoke on the importance of continued investment in scientific progress. https://t.co/JyCEatDoC8
📢Excited to introduce NanoCas -our new mini CRISPR system that can reach tissues previously out of reach!
By shrinking CRISPR to 1/3 its normal size, we can now edit genes in muscle, heart & brain that were difficult to access before. Summary & link to paper:
So excited to share the accomplishments of postdocs Drs. Thottappillil @NThottappillil, Wang and Salazar-Gomez. Their spatial blueprint of human blood vessels is out @Dev_Cell. Work done @JHUPath@JohnsHopkins. Thank you @NIH_NIAMS for their support
