@MaryFrancisWGST I totally agree. Sex shouldn't have the taboo that surrounds it. I remember when I was a kid, my mom read the book It's So Amazing with me. This was my first exposure to sex, and in the long run, the fact that I read it before sex-ed in school was very beneficial. #WGST106
@briannascu This unfortunately very true. So many people want to convince themselves that we have come so far as a country when it comes to racism, but the truth is that things aren't really much better. They're just much more hidden. #WGST106
This is a really common experience for many, at least for the people I've known who are bisexual. It was nice to see someone making a relatable article to help people discover their sexuality. #WGST106
This was really interesting to read about because I knew what queerbaiting was in film and television, but I had never thought about queerbaiting applying to real-life relationships. Queerbaiting really does hurt everyone, and sadly, it is everywhere and anywhere. #WGST106
"I thought we were building a real relationship, then I noticed she only treated me like her girlfriend when there was someone there to witness it." - @CthulhuBaby23 https://t.co/oDpMtoNPpZ
This thread from @Victor13Liu was very interesting and eye-opening. I knew that there have been many problems with how LGBTQ+ individuals are treated in the army, but it was sad to learn that same-sex partners don't always receive the benefits that heterosexual partners would.
Military culture has been a restrictive, oppressive, and sometimes dangerous place for the LGBTQ community, and the culture is often hyper masculine. However, 2 or 3% of the U.S. veterans identify as gay or lesbian(Gates, 2003). #WGST106
When I was in middle school and high school my sex ed classes were really good. We were taught all sorts of things about what sex was and how to have it safely. It's mind-blowing that so many schools don't have that same level of sex ed. It's a privilege I never knew I had.
Imagine asking someone “what’s the best way to ski?” and them telling you “just don’t ski at all”. Well, this is essentially how sex education is taught in a lot of the United States. ~ a thread 🧵~ #WGST106
A common misconception about bisexuality is that it is a stepping stone to coming out as gay and that bisexuality is a cover to conform to a heteronormative world. Because of this, many feel like they can't reveal their sexuality to other members of the LGBTQ community. #WGST106
A common definition of bisexuality is being attracted to both men and women, but it can mean different things for each individual. The Journal of Bisexuality describes bisexuality, as meaning being attracted to more than one gender. For many, this is hard to understand.#WGST106
In an article from the Journal of Bisexuality in 2008, first-hand accounts from several self-identifying bisexual individuals revealed that many bisexual men and women feel like they aren't welcome in or are misunderstood by the gay and lesbian community. #WGST106
@maximusmcmahon Will qualified women being put into more powerful positions be a stepping stone for change? Or will they still be silenced and diminished by "more qualified" men? #WGST106
A prevalent reason for biphobia is the misconception that bisexuality is a stepping stone to coming out as gay or lesbian. Bisexual individuals often feel hesitant about disclosing their sexuality due to a fear of people not understanding or accepting them. #WGST106#bisexual
@gabbyn2219 @BaltimoreFund @sem_camille The amount of false information that is out there about abortion is appalling as well. Everyone has a right to their own bad, just like you said, and manipulating people out of that right is just cruel.
Many people don't actually know what it means to be bisexual or pansexual. People think it all has to do with on gender or another, but that's just not the case #WGST106
A definition depends on the individual and their experiences. Self Magazine did a great job at gathering one definition of pansexuality. There is even a shout out to @VisImpactFund #Bi#Bi+ #Pan#BiDefintions#BiTheWay
