This is one of numerous examples of how the healthcare system is not doing enough to combat systemic racism. This all contributes to the larger issue of why people of color often do not receive adequate care from healthcare professionals. #WGST106
20 years in women's health and this is the first time I have seen a Black pregnancy medical illustration ...or any Black medical illustration for that matter.
Living in the the United States has never represented freedom and this is a clear example, women, especially Black women, do not have the appropriate options to take care of their reproductive health.
Abortion access is at risk. It is essential to share the stories of the people at the center of this issue.
We’ve partnered with @ColorOfChange to amplify five of our Black abortion storytellers who refuse to have their voices silenced.
No one should have to avoid getting care that is available because they can’t expect the healthcare professionals to be respectful. One individual was coerced into a tubal ligation, and stories like this keep others from seeking care. #WGST106#reproductivejustice
When fighting for reproductive justice, it is important to discuss the issues women or anyone with a uterus have in accessing reproductive care, and to keep in mind that those already facing discrimination have the most difficulty accessing care. #WGST106#reproductivejustice
This idea of education improving accessibility applies to healthcare providers as well, as many homeless individuals, as well as many people in general, often don’t seek care because of past negative experiences with healthcare providers. #WGST106#reproductivejustice
@_AnnaBeahm @MaryFrancisWGST This is so important! Emphasizing purity culture can make people ashamed of their sexuality, and less likely to seek resources or information about safe sex #WGST106
@n_sim15 So often language around abortion is about women’s rights, but this excludes people who are likely most in need of better access to these services. #WGST106
“This is not about white women of means. They are going to get an abortion, they always have. This is about keeping communities of color in poverty,” - Adrienne Mansanares via @nbcnews https://t.co/1YRcjPkpc2

You just got your period, but you have $10 for the week. Groceries or tampons? For 17 million people in the U.S., it's not hypothetical.

@GabyGut44 I think the main result of making abortion illegal would be more dangerous abortions, as we have seen across the world and throughout history that abortions continue to happen whether or not it is legal.
CPS has become a system that disproportionally targets poor families of color. How can we create a system that protects children who are being abused and neglected at home, and supports rather than punishes poor families who don't have enough resources? #wgst106#CPS
@an_wgst Agreed! Too many victims face shame for speaking out and are forced to continually relive their trauma to prove the perpetrator is guilty #WGST106
@GabyGut44@SenClayDavisx4 Not to mention being vaccinated affects the greater health of the community, while having an abortion is a much more personal decision #WGST106
