@giulia_palaia It's so saddening that receiving access to adequate support after facing sexual assault must lie in such uncertainty. Help should be ALWAYS be guaranteed. #WGST106
@GabyGut44 It's unfortunate that we live in a world that tells women that speaking out about their assault will ruin a man's life as if her life and experience mean nothing. Patriarchy makes women feel guilty and responsible for what has happened to them. #WGST106
Sex should result in the satisfaction of all involved parties. Women's pleasure must be prioritized as much as men's pleasure is, and any language that suggests otherwise is dehumanizing and misogynistic. Sex is something that should be done with – not to – a woman. #WGST106
I reject the premise "sex work is work" because I reject the idea that sex is work. The notion that sex is "women's work" is already normalized under patriarchy, whether as a wife or prostitute. Sex should be for the woman's pleasure alone, not a commodity to be bought and sold.

PORNOGRAPHY: based on the same moral, economic and social framework as prostitution, pornography feeds on patriarchal domination-submission relationships. For how long will we let misogynystic structures teach us what ""sex"" should be like? #8M3RDABOLITIONISTMARCH
Not only do #misogynistic structures teach us about what sex "should" be like, but they also impact sexual discourse. All too often, women are shamed for being sexual, men are praised for it, and LGBTQ+ people are told that their version of sex isn't really sex at all. #WGST106

In the US, Black pregnant women are at a high risk for maternal mortality and morbidity. In an article written by Dr. Elizabeth Howell in 2018, “Black woman had a case fatality rate 2.4 to 3.3x higher than that of white women for 5 specific pregnancy complications”. #WGST106
It's always shocking to be reminded of the statistics of sexual assault in college – as many as 1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted during their time in college. Thank you @GabyGut44 for this informative thread. #WGST106
Passage of the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act will void agreements that secretly silence sexual assault victims in the workplace. A great victory but we must not forget student survivors continue to be silenced by Title IX failures #wgst106
Imagine asking someone “what’s the best way to ski?” and them telling you “just don’t ski at all”. Well, this is essentially how sex education is taught in a lot of the United States. ~ a thread 🧵~ #WGST106
Loved reading this thread from @n_sim15 about #bisexuality! I had no idea that a common misconception about bisexuality is that it's a stepping stone to coming out as gay. #WGST106
A common definition of bisexuality is being attracted to both men and women, but it can mean different things for each individual. The Journal of Bisexuality describes bisexuality, as meaning being attracted to more than one gender. For many, this is hard to understand.#WGST106
@Fernand85367119 This is such an informative thread! The #PinkTax is something that has always baffled me, and I'm disappointed (but not surprised) that women could be paying 43% more for products than men. #WGST106
@JoshS27675980 I'm so happy to see that you've included LGBTQ+ individuals in your research! Researchers often neglect LGBTQ+ participants in their studies, which reinforces the gender binary. #WGST106
Men who have sex with multiple women are praised amongst their friends, whereas women are seen as "dirty" and "impure" (Perryman et al.). The harmful slut-shaming culture that this language perpetuates shames women into behaving and suppressing their sexuality.
There's no doubt that sex happens on college campuses. But as long as it's safe and consensual, why would we care if it happens? The truth is that the social repercussions for having sex are not the same for men who have sex and women who have sex. But why? #WGST106
Perceptions of victims of sexual violence as well as so-called “sluts” are intentionally gendered (Hackman et al.). But it's not really about having sex – it's about how many people you've slept with, what you wear, and how you present yourself, among other things.
The baseless analogies that many men use to justify sexual dominance over women must stop. Slut shaming women is unacceptable, no matter the circumstances. People of all genders should be able to explore their sexuality freely as long as there is consent. #SlutShaming#WGST106
@Fernand85367119 The price discrepancy between products tailored to men and those tailored to women is one we often miss in discussions about #gender inequity. Bringing awareness to this is the first step in igniting change! #WGST106#PinkTax

@n_sim15 This is a great point that is often missed in discourse about abortion rights! Abortion rights benefit anyone with a uterus, regardless of gender expression or sexuality. Making conversations about abortion more inclusive benefits everyone. #WGST106
