Brazil can maintain or double its agricultural output without losing a single tree in the Amazon.
How? Through a new “bioeconomy,” underpinned with policies & incentives that recognize the full value of nature, combined w/Indigenous knowledge. https://t.co/nXEE1O4JME
Nepal is an incredibly special place, but what this article also tells me is that @nytimes thinks community forestry is “radical policy” https://t.co/UJAh6x3A6j
As the largest historical GHG emitter, the US and @ClimateEnvoy now want to lead on climate solutions. But first we need to effectively ban imports of stolen timber and other products tainted by deforestation. https://t.co/c2EZDiSmH1

Less than 20 years ago, the world was headed for a >4C warmer world by 2100. The amount of change that would occur under that much warming, that fast, was almost unimaginable and certainly unsurvivable for human civilization + a large percentage of the world's species. (thread)
A flurry of climate commitments were made just one year ago in Glasgow to halt deforestation, strengthen climate targets, and phase-out fossil fuels.
So with #COP27 fast approaching, where do these commitments stand?

New RRI + @RainforestNORW research finds that only 17% of global climate + conservation funding intended for Indigenous + local communities is actually reaching them. How can we ensure the $1.7B pledge from #COP26 doesn't have the same fate? Read it now👇🏾

The links between agriculture and #deforestion are complicated, but leading experts (including those from GFW) lay out all the complexities in a new study in @ScienceMagazine.
What did they learn? Agriculture drives more tropical deforestation than previously cited.
Following Myanmar's 2021 coup, the int'l community has largely focused on China, ASEAN, and western gov't responses.
But c.1/4 of Myanmar's timber exports have gone to India since the coup - mostly kanyin + teak - and trade is increasing in '22. Check out our new blog for more.
