Not making our criminal justice system “fairer”. Not “better”. Not “properly funded”.
No, the government just wants to make it “tougher”. The hollow cry to the moon of every populist with scant understanding of the justice system and no concern for anybody actually affected.

September edition has just been delivered. Full of core practice discussions:supervision relationship; Court work; narratives of women and desistance; OPD and risk management in APs. @ProbationJnl https://t.co/EWst4yQP5N
I think we ought to be expressing more than just dissatisfaction. Perhaps what is required is a formal letter of complaint to those concerned with correspondence published to all staff. Let’s start holding those who sideline the profession to account.
@MoJGovUK needs to take decisive action to address equality of pay between NPS & CRC #probation staff
No to partial reunification & No to new contracts being signed off by anyone before a mutually acceptable equal pay settlement is agreed @MoJPress @Napo_News @napocymru1@TVNapo
The Edridge Fund 50/50 Club supports a good cause helping probation staff past & present in need and for only £1 a month. You don’t need to have any connection to probation to be a member so share with your friends and family @EdridgeFund @Napo_News

In the small print of today's @HMPPS announcement - another important Napo win with commitment to a professional register & license to boost status & protect profession. Again we led alone on this at times. Now will engage to make it work for staff. #joinNapo
It’s looking to be a high profile week for #Probation with Dame Glenys making her last appearance before the JSC on Tuesday morning and an Opposition debate on Prisons and Probation later.
Look out for #napo_news and @IlawrenceL for updates
https://t.co/zCFiy5Tq7i Probation Alliance has agreed initial principles for a rethink by government about how probation could be designed in the future.
The letter to the Secretary of State says it all. Thank you @HMIProbation for a clear and unequivocal statement confirming exactly what was predicted. A shocking damaging interlude in the proud history of probation. @AntoniaRomeoUK https://t.co/bU47QrYcCl
Under privatisation, probation companies have been forced to follow contractual targets, rather than deliver an effective service, according to Dame Glenys Stacey.
She's right. Let's end Chris Graylings disastrous probation privatisation. #r4today
https://t.co/4UotkSLTOd
There's little downside. It's a failed experiment that has sundered a previously effective service & is patently leaving the public less safe. Carrying on with privatisation 2.0 carries more political risk than accepting the inevitable. @RoryStewartUK could do the right thing.
Many of the risks inherent in the reform of the probation service had "materialised", according to Sir Richard Heaton, permanent secretary at Ministry of Justice.
On Grayling's Transforming Rehabilitation, Chief Inspector says: "Capable probation leaders were required to deliver change they did not believe in, against the very ethos of the profession" & probation supervision under contract "sub-standard", much of it "demonstrably poor".
This is dynamite from @HMIProbation & must surely be the death nail for #TR2: “The current model for the delivery of probation services in England & Wales is irredeemably flawed, and a major rethink is needed to create a system that is fit for the future”. https://t.co/VXuiIcGrBH
The Probation Inspectorate criticises probation privatisation & recommends its run by public sector. In #Wales, this should be done now. Probation should be devolved & unified. Leaving group & unpaid work in the private sector would be a mistake. @napocymru1
