I miss how Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network only aired commercials aimed at kids. I wish there was an option for that on Hulu and Youtube like please no more insurance or antidepressants please only show me the latest in super soaker technology
Plasma vitamin C levels are associated with brain structural networks on MRI: A large cohort study
"Our findings demonstrate that plasma vitamin C levels are positively associated with the structural integrity of the gray matter and DMN connectivity, generating the hypothesis that vitamin C may play a role in brain health."

Anthropologists coded 190 hunter-gatherer societies on how people married.
Most societies (94%) had arranged marriage/kin arrangement/courtship needing parental approval. Free courtship was rare.

The whole body MRI thing is controversial for obvious reasons. It’s costly & there are a lot of false positives. But I have neurosurgeon friends who tell me they do life-saving surgeries *every month* b/c people got full body MRI merely b/c they curious & found operable issues.
@StatisticUrban It's unclear what the issues would be, so I'm not sure about the map. If Harris had won, control of Congress would have probably gone to the Democrats as well.
A new study shows vitamin E can reverse fibrosis, inflammation and fat buildup in the liver.
Many studies had already shown that vitamin E has protective effects for the liver,
but this was the longest one to date (96 weeks) investigating this low of a dose of vitamin E - 300 mg of alpha tocopherol (450 IU) per day. (PMID: 39970876)
People receiving the vitamin E had visible improvements in their liver condition.
29.3% of people showed improvement in liver histology (>2X as good as placebo)
25.9% showed reductions in fibrosis - the scarring of the liver (>60% better than placebo)
Reducing fibrosis is HUGE - this is the most dangerous and irreversible part of these conditions.
In nearly all metrics of liver damage / fat accumulation, vitamin E markedly improved the condition.
(A) Steatosis → Fat accumulation inside liver cells
(B) Lobular inflammation → Immune cell clusters inflaming liver lobules
(D) Total NAFLD activity score → Composite measure of steatosis, inflammation, ballooning
(E) Fibrosis → Scar tissue replacing normal liver structure
no change in (C) Hepatocyte ballooning → Swollen, damaged liver cells losing shape (no change)
Vitamin E also decreased blood markers of liver damage.
After the 96 weeks, people on vitamin E had reduced:
➥ ALT (alanine aminotransferase)
➥ AST (aspartate aminotransferase)
These enzymes being high in the blood is a sign of liver cells dying - they rupture and release them into the blood.
Other markers were improved as well.
✲ GGT (another liver enzyme)
✲ IL-6 (classic marker of inflammation)
✲ Cytokeratin 18 M30/M65 (markers of liver cell death)
✲ CAP (Controlled Attenuation Parameter) → Ultrasound measure of liver fat
✲ LSM (Liver Stiffness Measurement) → Ultrasound measure of liver fibrosis
WHY vitamin E is so powerful for liver fat / fibrosis:
Vitamin E sits in cell / mitochondrial membranes in order to prevent them from being damaged by reactive oxygen species (oxidative stress / free radicals).
Without vitamin E, our membrane lipids get oxidized, triggering cell death, inflammation, and the damaging of other proteins.
These processes are what causes the damage in the liver, and eventually the fibrosis or laying down of scar tissue as a result.
When membrane lipids oxidize, they cannot export fat properly, leading to fat buildup.
Vitamin E also appears to reduce the synthesis of fat in the liver, by suppressing lipogenic gene expression.
It's important to note that these studies are trying to use vitamin E as a drug, as one thing you can take.
But that's not its intended role in our biology - it is meant to be a part of the overall antioxidant system, along with nutrients like:
➥ Vitamin C
➥ Glutathione (cysteine / glycine / glutamate)
➥ Selenium
➥ Vitamin B1
➥ Vitamin B2
➥ Zinc
➥ Copper
Without the entire system, vitamin E can only do so much good.
Hybrid work doesn't just boost productivity. It leads us to reproduce more too.
Economists find that when remote work opportunities rise, fertility rates do too. For every 3 couples that work from home at least a day a week, an extra child is born.
Flexibility is pro-family.
