I think one of the less talked about issues with the SACCO bill (SACCO’s becoming invested in the NIF) is that it is about continuing to entangle the country in the financialisation of public goods.
People will start to believe that they have more to gain from being an investor in public goods, than simply being a citizen who deserves to access good TRULY public infrastructure. In the end people begin to believe that privatisation of basic amenities is a good thing because it is profitable for them personally.
