@rijaydenpatrick @MadMaxFlapper @Jcardairy1 @Imani_Barbarin Who does that?? What are some examples? I'm not aware of this - I'm sad think that happens, but I wasn't aware of this. (oh, and be careful who you call "abled" as an insult - not all disabled people are on the same page as you - like me)

@ShannonDingle @rijaydenpatrick @Jcardairy1 @Imani_Barbarin It sounds like some in this thread are calling advocacy, even for kids too young or too severely disabled to speak for themselves as being "in disabled spaces" - making it "about them" I'm truly trying to understand the distinction here.

When a parent advocates for their severely disabled child, or one who is too young to advocate for themselves, when are they advocates and when are they making it about themselves? I trust you don't mean they shouldn't say or do anything...

The vast majority of parents I've interacted with as a peds rehab nurse have been selfless to the point of me encouraging them to take more self-care. So sorry (and kind of shocked) that there are parents out there not respecting their kids

@EbThen @Imani_Barbarin I'm coming for a place of being a rehab nurse to severely disabled kids, many have been harmed by the healthcare system, or would be except for their pitbull parents. I agree with you - those who can speak for themselves, but have been rolled over by their parents have a gripe

who said it did? not me... and in my 40 plus years as a nurse, I don't think I've ever heard of someone or seen someone "appropriate" disability... this thread is baffling to me - who did something wrong or offensive that started all this?

@chrislhayes Yes, saying that is anti-Semitic... it was anti-Catholic back in the day to wonder if a Catholic could hold office because they might be loyal to the Pope first. Holding our side to a higher standard is, luckily, a low hurdle
