@selentelechia I did almost nothing right, just coated with salt (lazy dry brine) for like 5 hours and cooked breast side down for my Friendsgiving a few days ago. Turned out incredible.
Dallas' minimum parking requirements mandate that bars must have one parking space per 100 square feet of floor area.
Literally government-mandated drunk driving.
Next Sunday 11/17 is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. @VisionZeroTexas will host the Texas vigil on the South Steps of the Texas Capitol.
After the vigil we will take 4,167 steps around the Capitol honoring each person killed in 12 months of Texas car crashes.
🚸 In 1969, 50% of American children walked or biked to school. Today, that number is just over 10%.
@zoabehafeez links this shift to the rise in childhood obesity and the youth mental health crisis. By rethinking the design of car-centric cities like #Houston and #Dallas, we can improve the health of kids and communities, writes Hafeez in a new brief.

@louisd217 So in favor!! Haven’t hung around much on 51st but it seems like a great candidate for bike lanes. Guad has sidewalks only on the west side south of 51st and only on the east side north of 51st 🧐
Anyone know if Flamingo Automotive is at all related to Flamingo Vintage by the Pound (RIP)? Is there some local history here about flamingos?
From the bus, it seemed like maybe the automotive place was the new vintage store location, clearly not 🥲
I might try to model how much of Guadalupe is fronted by auto oriented uses - anecdotally, it’s a lot, especially north of 31st. But car shops can be cute and fun to look at too!
@Quip11 I think that’s a very logical response.
Which tells me how much of a bind we're in that the safest way to protect a child from cars is to put a child in a car… that is a danger to other children.
Urbanists know that connectivity is critical, so start is with the areas around the building: Sidewalks, bike lanes, pedestrian paths, easements to urban trails. And remember things like good lighting, driveway placement, & signage can make a big difference with new developments.
Action Alert:
Ask the TX Senate Committee on Transportation for a balanced, multimodal strategy today!
This form only works for people who live in the district of a Senator on the Committee. Share it so as many of those people as possible can speak up.

🚸 Public health findings about dangerous #Houston roadways offer a starting point for conversations about transportation that everyone can support, @zoabehafeez told @DugBegley & @sgonzalezkelly. https://t.co/KEBfvv1d04
Thanks to the 117 people that showed up at our annual Project Connect Update to hear & engage with leaders from @austintexasgov, @CapMetroATX, & @ATP_org at the @LU286_JAC Hall on Airport.

According to Zillow, more than half of rental listings in Austin offer some sort of concession -- like one month rent free, for example. Lots of new apts have been built which means concessions & dropping rent prices.
I wrote about falling rents in May: https://t.co/H7zG0JNQa5
@owenbroadcast I’ve (somewhat jokingly, largely not) started replacing “mental health crisis” with “not conforming with society’s expectations” which can accurately describe someone running naked down the street or someone staying in bed for a week.
