$RSBA seems like such a great diversifier. I am shocked this hasn’t been adopted more
Completely sidestepped the volatility from the last couple days. Less than 5% drop in April ‘25
As I’m scaling out of risky big winners, I’m parking funds here
Here’s why I will continue to keep my oil long:
1. It’s still insurance against continued Iran conflict. The current “deal” is so terrible for the U.S., has even key Republican politicians so angry, and is so obviously going to get violated multiple ways by the Iranians, that Trump might be forced to go back to war, or to at least let Israel go back to war. As I type, the IRGC claims the Strait of Hormuz is closed, while Iran’s diplomats claim it is open.
2. The downside of holding is less than consensus appears to think. The #1 reason oil prices didn’t rise even more during March-June is that China sharply reduced its imports. China will almost certainly ramp imports back up to levels higher than Jan-Feb, to refill its reserves. The rest of the world also needs to refill reserves.
3. If oil supply has any sort of hiccup going forward, inventories are now too low to buffer the shock in the way they did during March-June.
4. I am still earning a small ongoing profit on the monthly futures roll to cheaper prices.
If oil continues to drift lower, so that I finally start losing money on my oil long: meh, I’m good, the rest of the portfolio will likely keep making multiples of those losses. If “something goes wrong” in the Gulf, the hedge will finally do its core job.
2/2
Oh, I get it—so handing Iran control of the Strait of Hormuz and a clear path to nuke to make them the undisputed regional heavyweight wasn't quite cutting it?
Now we're basically underwriting Hezbollah’s takeover of Lebanon by proving they can leverage Tehran to force a total capitulation from both Washington and Jerusalem.
Absolute masterclass in geopolitics. I’m sure the Middle East is just moments away from singing Kumbaya.
Art of the deal!!!
