Although I disagree with many of Marc’s claims about AI development, I got reminded that the deepest form of connection you can have with someone is the simplest: the awe of reality—the fact that we are both co-experiencing consciousness. Words aren’t even needed to be connected.
From a first‑principles view, the only way to get a perfect alignment proof from an ASI is for a conscious experiencer / your cognizing to merge with it and then, from the ground up, directly experience the completeness / posterior proofs that created the ASI. All in one moment.
Using the Freedom app, I block X/Twitter six days a week on all devices + web browsers and check in only on Mondays—same value, none of the mindless scroll. Highly recommend!
On my last day in Sweden @oliedholm introduced me to a serious Jhana practitioner living there. Besides talking shop as usual (exploring how the electromagnetic, cardiovascular, and neuronal system interplay to create these attractor states) we also talked a bit about culture.
He said that in Sweden it might be a bit more difficult to gain traction with meditation communities for a simple reason. If you say "I can access intense bliss at will any time I want" or that "my baseline is now full of bubbly pleasurable sensations" in Sweden you risk violating a key unwritten social rule. Namely, to explicitly say that you are special somehow. Thus, people end up not sharing their, objectively speaking, quite spectacular experiences.
It's perhaps the opposite as the problem we have in California: everyone is excited to share their mystical experiences! 😆 So here you get a bad signal to noise ratio, as people exaggerate their experiences a bit.
So just remember: it is lovely how inclusive the culture in Sweden is. But it comes with the side effect that people won't tell you viral information about how incredible they are for fear of looking like they're trying to say they're better than others. You have to inquire about their pheomenology directly :-)
Andrés is amazing on so many levels! I am incredibly bullish that a Bell Labs for Consciousness R&D for the benefit of all beings can and should happen soon, with people like Andrés spearheading it.
Thank you everyone involved, it was a pleasure! 🙏🌈❤️
Oliver Edholm, 21, berättar hur enkelt han med hjälp av generativ AI kan få en detaljerad plan för hur han ska kunna döda tusentals stockholmare i ett terrorattentat. Förstår folk i allmänhet riskerna med AI?
While in NYC, we held briefings on frontier AI for UN diplomats w/ @CostaRicaONU. Led by experts @Kristian_Ronn & @oliedholm, we showcased current-day AI capabilities, discussed their policy implications, and identified paths for the #GDC to tackle AI.

Swedish morning news, someone on advocating laws limiting max compute. Claims ai more important than climate change, biggest issue facing humanity. Host seems basically on board. Feels like this is really hiting mainstream lately.
This Do Explain podcast with Oliver Edholm is fantastic! Includes a neat summary of jhana experience and a journey to Dzogchen through AI and Singapore.

The founder story here is wild... teen wunderkind left school at 14, took up work at Klarna, moved to Singapore at 16 (when even his chill parents freaked out), all before founding this startup, getting it into YC, etc. Of course he's a Thiel Fellow too... he's now 19.
