A HOTEL developer is asking if they can add 2 floors and build "air bnb like" STR units since there are no more left in the downtown core of Victoria and they see it as a gap that needs to be filled!!! @CityOfVictoria this will be interesting to watch. @ChardDev beware even if they grant you the approval they believe they can take it away whenever they want. It happened to us. They will ask you to rent those units out below your cost to provide housing. #nobusinessbc

Victoria City Council asked @KahlonRav to wipe out 400 legally hotel zoned individual mom & pop owned air bnbs in the tourist core of Victoria, then saw a huge negative impact on downtown tourism related businesses. We want our legal rights to operate back. Will they say yes to a corporation but no to citizens?

Huge downturn in # of people in the core of Victoria this summer. Some are pointing to the elimination of short term rentals & the resultant sky high hotel prices as the cause, as seen in Kelowna.
