Delighted to share that we have secured our lab's FIRST grant! ๐ Our 5-year application to the Israel Science Foundation (ISF) has been selected for funding. Huge shoutout to the fantastic four reviewers for giving us the thumbs up! Now, off to do some epic science! ๐งช๐ก

We are grateful for their participation and look forward to welcoming the cilia community on 8-12, March 2027.
Wishing you all a happy and inspiring 2026.

Reconnecting Israeli scientists to Israel:
Prof. @orlyavni , Dean, joined a senior scientific delegation to Europe, meeting researchers in Berlin, Zurich and Cambridge. The mission: open doors, build networks and show Israeli scientists abroad the opportunities back home.
Miao Gui and @OrbachRon summarise current structural and functional insights into conserved and lineage-specific MIPs, their roles in shaping ciliary architecture, and the consequences of their disruption on ciliary motility.

Ever wondered what microtubule inner proteins (MIPs) are and what they actually do? Or perhaps you already know about them, but find it hard to keep track of which ones are conserved across species and how they support ciliary structure and function?

@miao_gui and I wrote a Review for @J_Cell_Sci special issue โCilia and Flagella: From Basic Biology to Diseaseโ. It provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of MIP structure, function, and the latest tools used to study them, crafted to serve both newcomers and experts
Thrilled to share our new work in Nature Neuroscience!
Together with amazing collaborators and led by Ariel Ionescu, we discovered that muscle-derived miR-126 controls local axonal TDP-43 synthesis and protects neuromuscular junctions in ALS.

A huge milestone for the lab, and for me personally ๐ชThank you Israel Science Foundation #ISF for supporting our research on #nocebo effects in everyday life. We'll examine how health perceptions can causally shape physical health outcomes, and study the mechanisms involved.
Congrats to our #ISF 2025โ2026 grant recipients from the @Bar_ilan Azrieli faculty of medicine: Dr. @LironRozenkrant is exploring how subjective health perceptions impact physical health;
Prof. David Karasik is studying early bone development to prevent osteoporosis later in life; Prof. @ChaimPutterman is investigating a protein that may drive brain damage in lupus.
A New study from @Bar_ilanโs faculty of medicine : Prof. @evanmelliott and Dr. Orly Weisberg & team discovered that Turning off the autism-linked gene CHD8 in adult brain immune cells (microglia) โ not neurons โ led to autism-like behaviors in males. A surprising twist in autism research, highlighting sex differences and the brainโs immune system.
So apparently a lot of people don't know this, but your Rods and Cones in your eyeballs all contain Microtubule Cilia
So some of the first interactions that light has with your Conscious perception, is in Microtubules - that's a big clue
A new study, published in @NatureComms, demonstrates an essential role for CFAP100 in #keratinocyte division.
It shows that CFAP100 couples microtubule glutamylation to spindle pole integrity in keratinocytes to promote epidermal development. https://t.co/qrm8O1RgAj
