This explanatory mini documentary by Mark Fairbrother blows the ice lid off our team’s cryoconite hole research, revealing our diverse activities and findings during three seasons in Antarctica.

@1NativeSoilNerd I'm so sorry to hear you're going through that. Sending thoughts and strength. May your pup and your running and your soils carry you though this time
I had the great fortune to meet Priyanga even I was a grad student and she visited to give a seminar. She inspired me with her ground breaking research, her kindness and generosity, and her enthusiasm and sense of wonder and curiosity. What UCLA is doing is unconscionable
Nick & I have been making peeps dioramas for Easter the last few years... first they skied, then rafted, then mountain biked. This year they scuba dived! #peepshow#peeps#easter#scubadiving
(Travel schedules and tag teaming the peep prep made the post a week late)
@AJMooreHealth Don't use turbo tax for filing if you have a fellowship! It screwed mine up in grad school, too, and it's so opaque it's hard to know how to fix it.
If your taxes are simple enough (eg don't own property) to just use a 1040, use the free fillable forms online to fill out direct
What YOU can do to help Antarctica.
Here are *suggestions* of things YOU can do to help. Please feel free to add your own.
Let’s start with the easy ones.
A thread. 🧵
If you're in the Boulder area on May 10th, please join us in celebrating @sarahecrump's scientific legacy. Sarah was a brilliant and creative Arctic scientist whose career was cut far too short by cancer.

It's been almost 20 years since I last scuba dived so I went through beginner training again - this time with NAUI rather than PADI, but still did my open water dive at Homestead Crater again!
It has been a very exciting day in Houston as @NASA & @csa_asc announced the four astronauts who will venture around the Moon. The crew assignments are: Commander @astro_reid, Pilot @AstroVicGlover, Mission Specialist 1 @Astro_Christina, and Mission Specialist 2 @Astro_Jeremy.
Fun to see research out from CU Boulder colleagues out on the DNA signatures in samples collected high on Mt Everest! I remember those samples arriving in the lab

And fun to hear it joked about on @waitwait 🙃
Fun to watch after re-doing my scuba certification last week!
This comes a few decades (!) after my first cert, haven't dived in quite a while, so I started over. The NAUI course thru CU turns out to be very rigorous for beginner cert, great safety training and fun challenges
Grab your swimsuit and dive into a new episode of Surprisingly STEM! @NASA dive specialist, Arielle Valdez, shares her story of how she went from diving shipwrecks across the world to training @NASA_Astronauts on an underwater mockup of the @Space_Station: https://t.co/eJtvsa5MH4
@dasbuchheister I'm so sorry for your loss, and thanks for sharing these beautiful reflections about your mother. I never met her, but I can see her qualities you describe in you as well
Drinking coffee in space has never been the same earth-like pleasure because astronauts have to sip it with a bag & a straw, so Don Pettit designed the Capillary Cup, which uses the principle of capillary channel flow
