magma cohort 1 kicks off today 🌋

25 exceptional founders & builders from all over Africa + 10 global builders are coming together in Kenya.

We’re spending two weeks IRL coordinating on roadmaps for an open, borderless, and permissionless financial system that works for the 1.4B African users.

Web3 needs Africa to realize its promise of utility for the masses.

Africa brings scale. Huge friction points with a legacy system is not meeting the needs of the people. It’s the perfect breeding ground for decentralized and permissionless innovations.

But to have the user centric tools needed to leapfrog what’s not working, we need coordinated efforts by builders.

Magma is an effort at doing just that.

Cohort 1 builders are working onchain or moving fully onchain, building the simple tools that improve financial services for African users: wallets, stablecoins, on/off ramps, payments, savings applications, credit reporting, node infrastructure.

They are also driving innovations in carbon credits onchain, decentralized messaging, tools for creators, LLM for consumer insights, a modular micro-data center and node, digital asset infrastructure services, cross chain bridges, and preserving culture and history onchain. Individual open source developers and builders are also in the mix.

Global founders, researchers, and infrastructure builders have signed up to share, support, and learn from/with our African builders.
