Can you please enlighten us on why 127 cuts were recommended for the film Panjab '95?
The same film, now renamed ‘Satluj’, has been taken down from an OTT platform in less than two days. The CBFC has no jurisdiction over OTT platforms or international releases.
Panjab '95 tells the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a man who exposed documented human rights abuses and paid for it with his life. If a film based on documented facts cannot be seen by Indian audiences, then the public deserves to know why.
This sends a very direct message to filmmakers and production companies: if you're paying homage to a great personality from a minority community, you'll have to face the CBFC.
Journalists should be asking the people running this censor board some hard questions. Why are some politically insensitive films able to pass with ease while others spend years in limbo?
A red carpet for Kashmir Files, Bengal Files, and Kerala Story. Roses for Dhurandar 1 & 2, a fictional documentary/explainer for the unthinkable and the unexplainable.
How does it feel to feast on four years of a director's career?
In Nehru's India, this would have been litigated in court. If filmmakers cannot tell the stories of people who stood up for justice without years of obstruction, what kind of cinema are we encouraging them to make?
Jaswant Singh Khalra Abducted again,
This time by the CBFC

Software engineering accounts for nearly 50% of all AI agent tool calls. Healthcare, legal, finance, and a dozen other verticals are barely touched, each under 5%. That's a hundred AI unicorns waiting to be built.

The next 10 years in AI are going to be very, very engineer-led. To get the right ROI from AI, engineers will have to do EVERYTHING. In one of our pre IPO cos, engineers write the code using AI, but engineers are also sitting in support calls & "agentifying" it. Engineers are plugging into marketing & sales functions and injecting AI into it. Same for product, design, etc. Frankly this has been the only way AI (1) has delivered ROI (2) led to sticky adoption within functional teams (3) in a short time frame. There is a new concept of what I call "internally deployed engineers" that is really necessary to take these magical but brittle tools and fit it to specific purposes for an enterprise. The value and importance of an engineer has never been higher, but the value of a creative, high empathy engineer is at the absolute peak right now because they can be very effective change agents within the orgs and be the strategic secret tool that puts the company ahead of all others. If you have these engineers, do everything you can to keep them around.

One the richest, most powerful & well connected businessman in the world is fighting small independent you-tubers. A man who owns one of India's biggest media conglomerates is discovering that news content creators with one camera - broadcasting from one room - have one thing ....that money cant buy.
During India's First Emergency (besides the notable exception of @IndianExpress) - it were the smaller independent publications that stood their ground & gave Indira Gandhi a tough time. Publications like #Himmat & #Pratap didn't bend despite hundreds of journalists being sent to jail & courts being a mute spectator.
Today, 50yrs down the line - as history repeats itself, we at @thedeshbhakt are proud to keep that tradition alive along with a select group of individuals. The tradition of questioning people in power & not bending to money & muscle.
On the 16th of September - a Delhi Court passed an ex-parte injunction order against nine journalists & organisations (including @paranjoygt & @t_d_h_nair) who had been regularly reporting on Adani.
While such orders have become mundane in New India - what set this apart was a 'John Doe' on the 10th defendant. This basically allowed Adani to make a list of people that IT THOUGHT was making 'defamatory content' against it - these people were not even NAMED in the defamation suit.
Now independent youtubers & publications such as @ravish_journo, @ajitanjum, @newslaundry, @dhruv_rathee, @abhisar_sharma and yours truly have been given 36 hours to delete over 200 pieces of content - without any opportunity to contest this order.
Whatever your political leanings may be - know that this is now beyond politics and this silencing will impact everyone.
We take this move as a compliment and this is testament to the power & credibility that small independent Digital Publications have been able to garner. We thank each and every member of the Deshbhakt family for their trust and support.
We do not know when OR IF the higher courts will reverse this alarming order - but we will carry on our mission to punch up, question everything & fight for our Democracy.
As for the legal angle - there is a laundry list of businessmen who tried to silence journalists using the courts - usually it didn't end very well for them.
