BNHS biologist Parveen Shaikh receives The Habitat Trust Action Grant for her work on riverine nesting birds in Chambal. BNHS deeply acknowledges The Habitat Trust for this rich recognition to Parveen's conservation efforts. A proud moment for us at BNHS.
Riverine nesting bird banding program initiated in river Mahanadi, Odisha. Thanks to @_sbisecurities for funding the species conservation work in Mahanadi.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of the nest guardians of Chambal who braved the hot summer and sudden release of water over the past two months, the skimmers chicks have finally fledged from their nests. Gratitude to our donors @_sbisecurities@BirdLife_News@BirdLife_Asia
After two years of Covid lockdowns we have resumed the marking of adult skimmers at Chambal. We recaptured this individual which was marked at the same location in 2019, indicating strong site fidelity for the nesting sites and importance of conservation of this nesting habitat
Sudden release of water at Kota barrage in #Rajasthan has led to flooding of river islands in Chambal, drowning the eggs and newly hatched chicks of the #Endangered Indian Skimmer. An urgent appeal to @ashokgehlot51 to halt the process for ~2 weeks till they take flight.
With less than 2,500 adult Indian skimmers left in the wild, they are clearly more endangered than tiger. As fluctuating water level submerge their nests and dogs eat their chicks, their survival is completely at our mercy.
