I am thrilled to announce my return to a16z as a full-time General Partner. Having made a full recovery from cancer and navigated some of life’s most taxing personal hurdles, I am returning with a sharpened sense of purpose and a deep optimism for the future, both personally and professionally.
My time away reinforced that living to one's fullest capacity requires doing what you love with the people you trust. While I’ve continued to support my boards and founders, I’ve realized my greatest impact happens when I am 'all in.' I believe he current pace of innovation in infrastructure is unmatched, and I couldn't be happier to be back in the trenches with my colleagues and close friends on the a16z Infra team.
I’m proud to announce @HarpoonVentures Fund IV!
$155m to invest in critical technologies for the United States and our allies.
Big thanks to @MariaBartiromo for having me on her show for the announcement.
Happy 4th of July and 250th!

Hivemind is going into production for the U.S. Air Force.
Shield AI has been awarded a production contract to implement Hivemind mission autonomy for the USAF Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program.
By treating mission autonomy as a standalone capability, the @usairforce can upgrade software across platforms without redesigning airframes and scale Hivemind across its broader CCA ecosystem, delivering collaborative combat autonomy with multiple autonomous aircraft operating together under human supervision.

Autonomy for the world. The greatest victory requires no war.
From Washington to Detroit: defining the future of defense
At @DefenseOne Tech Summit, @brandontseng2 joined a conversation on how fast-moving defense-tech companies are bridging the gap between the Pentagon’s policy makers and Silicon Valley investors.
At Reindustrialize 3.0, Sean Keith-Stewart (VP, Aircraft) discussed the future defense industrial base, and why speed and scale no longer have to pull in opposite directions.

America’s digital economy relies on our physical infrastructure and the electricians, pipefitters, welders, manufacturing workers & more who build and maintain it.
Today, we’re making an additional @googleorg commitment to help 300K American workers prepare for these in-demand skilled trades careers, expanding on the $1B we’ve already provided for digital skills and training globally.
It’s so great to be back at a16z on the AI Infra team – there could not be a more exciting time to be in this space! As we continue to grow, I’m looking for someone to partner with me on the front lines of company evaluation and investing through AI research, market mapping, modeling and diligence.
“The unmanned surface vessel, a Saronic Corsair, located the crew, who had spent two hours in the waters off the coast of Oman and brought them to shore.”
Never been prouder of the @Saronic team. 🇺🇸💪🚀
A great board of a fully agent-native company needs to:
- Oversee AI model risk, reliability, data rights, and autonomy boundaries
- Understand AI infrastructure, adversarial AI, and regulation deeply
- Know what deserves delegating to AI vs humans
- Discern when a system should be human-in-the-loop
Exciting times ahead!

Thank you for all the support, hearing from all of you means a lot.
I’d like to expand upon what exactly I’ve been working on over the past 5 years: A lot of climbing, teaching at Dartmouth, and philanthropy, including starting the Levine Impact Lab.

AI is going to make the activity of mathematical discovery feel much more like an empirical science. We explore, build intuitions, observe invariants, generate conjectures, and AI helps us navigate enormous spaces of possible ideas and proofs together.
The fact that AI is now bridging very disparate areas of mathematics in novel and deep ways to tackle longstanding problems means it is doing “interesting” mathematics. Very exciting times for non research mathematicians to be able to participate now!
This week’s charts of the week is a special one, because the identity of our charts guy is finally revealed! It’s @MosesSternstein, of Random Walk.
I’ve had so much fun working with Moses on our team; please enjoy this week’s issue and many more
