@simonw Great article as always Simon! Love the idea of mischievously leaning into the friction between “vibe” and “engineering.”
To throw my own silly idea into the ring, I propose “claude coding” in the same way “googling” has come to mean “doing a web search.”
@LinkedInHelp I've been locked out of my account for two weeks. This is incredibly frustrating — I'm applying for a job and need this for the interview. When I try to submit your support form it errors saying "there was an error creating my case". Can I get this resolved please?
@paulg AI is a great tool, but similar to your point about thinking -- writing is also feeling.
It literally takes time to think. That's part of the value of writing imo, it gives us a way to create that space for thoughts to occur.
Same thing for feelings.
@patio11 Very much feel this.
I like David Chapman's idea of "enjoyable usefulness" as a way of striking this balance. Many things are enjoyable, many things are useful. Where do they overlap in the Venn diagram?
@ma_adam_@patio11 A great question, and a hard one. @Meaningness has a great book on this question.
One idea: pay attention to pain. Pain is super helpful -- it directs our attention to important things or things that aren't working.
What pain do you see in yourself and the people around you?
@sterlingcrispin@peterthiel 110%. In that vein, imagine what kind of data you could create / collect. Not just great business opportunities there, but a great moat. OpenAI can't commoditize your business if they don't have your data.
@fu5ha +1 for this idea ☺️
One of my fav things about Rust is that it’s great for non-systems things too
As someone who hasn’t written a ton of super performance-sensitive code, I’m curious about alternatives to “jiggle the compiler” and “write unsafe code”
@visakanv Agreed — and I think there’s opportunity in this. Lingering uncertainty and disagreements can be a source of new ideas when things aren’t working
@Meaningness has some good things to say on this topic

@flynorse currently unable to check in to our flight from JFK to Oslo. Sent a support email to [email protected]. Please answer, my friend and I are hungry. Last name on the request is Bailey.
@p_millerd These are precisely the ideas that we’re building on at our technology studio. Helping people in our community design their life around leisure and what they genuinely care about. Explicit support for long breaks. “Hit your target income then work on working less.”
@utotranslucence E.g. I've seen more than once how meds can improve someone's sense-making process. Then that initial improvement cascades because they're better able to navigate work and relationships
@utotranslucence Love this framing!
I agree that 'curing mental illnesses with brain science' is probably not the right strategy, but imo understanding the brain is still useful in this model because it gives us material ways to intervene in the process of sense-making
@imrejele@paarsec Love how this recognizes that your fear doesn’t have to determine your actions
