Today, a delegation from the African Union Humanitarian Assessment Mission, led by H.E. Mr. Indrajeet Babooa, Ambassador of Mauritius and Permanent Representative to the African Union and UNECA, visited the Ruranga Site in @RubavuDistrict, where 564 houses are being constructed for families affected by the May 2023 disasters.
The delegation commended the Government of Rwanda, humanitarian partners and communities for the significant progress achieved in recovery and resilient reconstruction, noting that the Ruranga model demonstrates how post disaster recovery can be effectively linked to long term resilience, safety and sustainable development.
Ambassador Babooa praised Rwanda’s efforts in emergency response, relocation of households from high-risk zones and investment in resilient housing. He emphasized that Rwanda’s experience offers valuable lessons for African countries facing similar climate and disaster related challenges.
Today, Minister Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira, accompanied by @RwandaWest Governor; Jean Bosco Ntibitura and @RubavuDistrict Mayor Prosper Mulindwa, conducted a visit to the Ruranga and Kasonga sites in Rugerero Sector, where 870 houses are under construction for households affected by the 2023 disasters.
They reviewed the progress of ongoing works implemented under the Contingency Emergency Response Component (CERC) Project, commended the progress achieved so far and provided strategic guidance to accelerate the remaining works, emphasizing the importance of timely completion.

The delegation was briefed on ETM operations and durable solutions for asylum seekers and refugees accommodated at the center. H.E. Mr. Babooa commended the Government of Rwanda for its leadership in refugee protection, describing ETM Gashora as a model refugee center on the continent.
The mission kicked off with a Joint Stakeholders Meeting, where PS. @NgogaAristarque reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to refugee protection and humanitarian action, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility, international cooperation, and durable solutions for refugees and other displaced populations.

Today, Minister Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira received a delegation from the @Uni_Rwanda to review progress on the joint initiative to establish a Centre of Excellence in Disaster Management and Climate Resilience to be hosted by the University of Rwanda.
The initiative aims to establish a nationally and regionally recognized hub for strengthening disaster preparedness, climate resilience, research and innovation, capacity development and evidence-based policymaking. The meeting commended the progress achieved so far and provided strategic guidance to further strengthen and refine the project proposal in line with Rwanda’s resilience and sustainable development priorities.
This Wednesday, Minister Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira, accompanied by @PudenceR Governor/@RwandaEast, the Mayor of @GatsiboDistrict & stakeholders, carried out an inspection visit to assess the progress of 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐈𝐈 construction and upgrade works at Ngarama Hospital and 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐈𝐈 expansion of Gihengeri Water Treatment Plant.
The visit provided an opportunity to review ongoing activities on site, assess the pace of implementation of the two strategic infrastructure projects, and discuss measures to fast-track progress while addressing challenges that could affect project timelines.
The upgrade of Ngarama Hospital will strengthen healthcare service delivery by increasing capacity from 130 to 300 beds and improving access to quality medical care, while the expansion of the Gihengeri Water Treatment Plant will raise daily water production from 2,800m³ to 4,560m³, enhancing water supply services for residents of @GatsiboDistrict & @NyagatareDistr.
These two projects are among several initiatives being implemented under #JyaMbereProject, which aims to promote socio-economic inclusion and improve living conditions for refugees and host communities in districts hosting refugee camps.

Today, DG of Policy, Planning and Risk Reduction; Adalbert RUKEBANUKA, attended the 2026 Annual Meeting of @ZEPRE_PTAReins in Kigali, bringing together government officials, regulators, industry leaders, development partners and the private sector to advance Africa’s insurance ecosystem for economic resilience, with a focus on inclusive growth.
He participated in a high-level panel on disaster risk financing and inclusive insurance solutions, highlighting the impact of disasters on public infrastructure, the role of insurance in protecting government budgets, and the need to integrate risk financing into national economic frameworks. Discussions also emphasized coordinated approaches, including regional risk pooling and stronger regulatory systems.
The dialogue generated actionable insights on policy reform, climate and disaster risk protection, and innovative insurance models, alongside strengthened commitments to mobilize partnerships and scale resilient financing solutions across Africa.
Today, PS @NgogaAristarque opened a four-day technical workshop on multi-hazard risk assessment, advancing multi-hydrological models and interoperable platforms for flood early warning and anticipatory action in the Nile Basin.
Held under the Water at the Heart of Climate Action initiative, the workshop brings together experts from Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Sudan, and Sudan to strengthen risk assessment and enhance forecasting systems. He emphasized the shift from forecasting weather events to predicting their real-world impacts by integrating hazard, exposure, and vulnerability data to generate actionable risk information that save lives and livelihoods.
Partners including @WMO, @UNDRR, @IGAD_CPAC, @FacultyITC and the Red Cross are collaborating to refine forecasting systems, validate shared visualization platforms, and link forecasts with risk data to enable effective impact-based early warning and anticipatory action.
Today, PS. @NgogaAristarque received Ms. @Tikikel, UN Women Acting Rep. to discuss the proposed initiative entitled: “Strengthening Gender-Responsive Climate Resilience, Disaster Preparedness and Early Warning Systems in Rwanda.”
