@Chanel732 @MiBFTo @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump I don't want to take access away from anyone. I would think that there is data in many cases about when and how many spaces are needed (both for disabled parking and otherwise). I would never advocate for taking away spaces that might be needed, and I'm not pushing for this.
@ebassler @magpie_mama @KittieCreighton@godivademaus@MiBFTo @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump No, I've never been seriously inconvenienced by this. And originally, I thought this might be easily accomplished without negatively impacting anyone. Starting to seem like it might be impractical, and I really don't want to fight for this. Looked like low-hanging fruit at first.
@gmixy9 @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump I was trying to say that if there are fewer people total out then there are also fewer people with disabilities out. There should always be enough disabled-only parking (closest to the doors) 24/7. But it would seem that the demand would shrink proportionally during some hours.
@mindcaviar @musicandscifi@JenLRossman And I'm really thinking about your segregation analogy and the emotional weight of it. Thank you for taking the time to talk with me about this.
@mindcaviar @musicandscifi@JenLRossman I think I see what you're saying. And I want to be clear here that I'm not advocating legislation for this or fighting for it. If it is a simple thing that does no harm, it would be nice. If it costly in anyway (time, money, legislation) or if it does harm, then I'm not for it.
@SianaGearz@JenLRossman True, people abuse these things, and that's a good consideration. This might be impractical for just that reason (inviting additional abuse). Thank you for bringing that up.
@JustNikkiB1 @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump It isn't a problem, just a convenience, one that some people may care about more than others. If I park in the closest (non-disabled) spot, is that harmful? I would only want this if there was still plenty of disabled parking (closest to the door) for anyone who needed it, 24/7.
@GaryJk64 @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump This may be impractical in the majority of lots for that reason. My original comment was based on the assumption (probably bad, it seems) that disabled parking was sufficient during peak times (which would allow for extra parking during slow times).
@KittieCreighton@ebassler@godivademaus@MiBFTo @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump I'm saying that the spaces closest to the door should ALWAYS be disabled-only - people without disabilities should never park in these. There should ALWAYS be enough disabled-only parking. But during the day you might need 30-40 disabled only spots while at night only needing 15.
@GaryJk64 @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump I would never want this to impact access for anyone who needed those spaces. There should always be enough disabled parking for anyone who needs it, 24 hrs/day, and it should be the closest parking to the doors. This idea would only be acceptable if those requirements were met.
@cincsem@JenLRossman There should always be plenty of disabled-only parking (closest to the doors). I only meant this as a possibility for cases where some of the disabled spots (the farther ones) were not needed at certain times. I wouldn't want it to affect access for anyone who needed the spots.
@SaphicSue@MiBFTo @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump Enough spaces (closest to the door) should remain disabled-only all the time. There should always be enough disabled-only parking (closest to the door) for people who need it. This would be similar to lights that change to flashing yellow over night.
@ebassler@godivademaus@MiBFTo @ryan69740921 @JenLRossman@realDonaldTrump You might be right about the (im)practicality of it, and thank you for bringing those items up (analyzing parking patterns/making signs). Initially I thought this might be a near-zero cost option. If it's easy, it'd be nice, but if it's not then I won't push for it.
@DebiNagle@mattstockholder@JenLRossman@DanielLaw1998 I do not agree with the @DanielLaw1998's view that disabled people shouldn't be out after 5pm. I want there to be plenty of disabled-only parking 24 hours/day - enough for anyone who needs it and closest to the door. I never meant to suggest otherwise.
@DebiNagle@JenLRossman@mattstockholder To be clear, that is not what I have said or suggested. I want there to be plenty of disabled parking for anyone who needs it 24-hours a day, and I want it to be the closest parking to the door.
