Massive outrage has erupted in Pune’s Vishrantwadi–Tingre Nagar Road area after locals and activist Sachin Bhosale alleged that healthy trees were excessively cut despite permission being granted only for trimming a few dangerous branches.

A river in UP had turned into a garbage dump — until 21-year-old Aakash Gupta decided to act.

With no funding or equipment, he and a small group of youngsters spent weeks cleaning the polluted Manorama River, removing over 500 kg of waste in just 39 days.

People mocked them. Told them it was pointless.

But today, the river flows visibly again — proving that real change begins when someone simply refuses to give up.

Residents and environmental activists gathered on Ganeshkhind Road to oppose the proposed cutting and transplantation of old trees for the road widening project. They say the city has already lost many trees in recent years and cannot afford to lose more of its green cover.

Citizens painted and measured the trees, held a peaceful gathering and said many transplanted trees in Pune do not survive. Activists also pointed to dried tree stumps from earlier projects as proof that moving old trees often fails.

The protest focused on the stretch near Savitribai Phule Pune University, where some of Pune’s oldest avenue trees stand. Residents are now planning more events and campaigns to stop the project and protect what they call the city’s green heritage.
