Huge amount of money but not exorbitant. For perspective, early stage pre-clinical trials in biotech often cost several times more. To me, this kind of price tag is a statement of the scale of the problem we’re facing and working to solve.

If we want to track the result of an ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) for ocean CO₂ removal (CDR), a tracer release followed by continuous survey for ~3 weeks is reasonable. To do so from a suitable ship (day rate $50k/day) will cost $1 million for just 20 days of ship time.
