#WATCH | Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh: On cloud seeding in Delhi, Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, says, "We did not get a lot of cloud moisture. It was only around 15%. Given the low moisture content, the possibility of rain is very small. So we did not achieve success from that perspective. But still, we got a lot of very useful information. We had set up 15 stations at different parts of Delhi to measure the level of air pollution, the level of moisture, etc. So our data shows that there has been a reduction of 6 to 10 % in PM2.5 and PM10 concentration. So, this shows that even with a very small or low level of moisture in the cloud, when we do the seeding, it does result in some impact, not the impact that one would ideally like to see, but still some impact. And that's extremely useful information or data for us in order to plan our future seeding experiments...We expect to do two more sorties today. We are also expecting slightly better moisture content in the cloud. So hopefully, we will have better results..."

To be very honest, this was the most surprising given that the bar has fallen so low. Upholding the scheme as it is would've been disastrous not just for the Court but for a free & fair election system. Given how things are going, one expected the Court to uphold the Electoral Bond Scheme but require disclosures hereon.

However, the Court has not only struck down the entire Scheme as "unconstitutional" but also ordered the SBI/Election Commission of India to disclose who donated to whom since 2019. It has ordered SBI to stop issuing any further bonds. More surprisingly, the unlimited donation provision for corporates has also been held to be "manifestly arbitrary" and "unconstitutional". In other words, the people have won today. Chief Justice Chandrachud and his companion judges have, to a great extent, stopped the "murder of democracy", like he had promised in another case. I say to a great extent only because the union may attempt to overturn this judgement in one way or the other and for the Court to go to the full extent in stopping what it should, it will have to stand by its judgement and require the Union to strictly abide by it.

While bad policies come and go, bad governments come and go, the absolute requirement of a free & fair election is fundamental to a democracy. The Supreme Court has reinforced this idea. Good day for the people of India today.
