In der Causa VW wird viel über Managementfehler gesprochen. Dabei wird ein wesentlich unangenehmerer Punkt ausgeblendet.

Deutschland bildet in der Breite offenbar längst nicht mehr die aller besten Ingenieure und Softwareentwickler der Welt aus.

Wenn bei Cariad rund 6 Milliarden Euro versenkt werden und softwaretechnisch trotzdem kaum etwas funktioniert, dann reicht es nicht, immer nur auf das Management zu zeigen. Gleiches gilt für Milliardeninvestitionen in das autonome Fahren mit Bosch. Geld war genug da.

Was offensichtlich fehlte, waren vor allem Kompetenz, Umsetzungskraft und technologische Exzellenz.

80 bis 90 Prozent der deutschen Softwareentwickler gehören nicht zur Weltspitze. Das ist kein persönlicher Vorwurf, sondern das Ergebnis eines Bildungssystems, das Leistung, Mathematik, Technik und Exzellenz über viele viele Jahre vernachlässigt hat.

Damit landet man zwangsläufig beim Bildungssystem. Und dort tragen CDU, SPD und Grüne seit vielen vielen Jahren Verantwortung. Das Ergebnis ist verheerend: sinkende Leistungsstandards, Fachkräftemangel und ein Land, das seinen technologischen Vorsprung verspielt hat.

VW ist deshalb nicht nur eine Managementkrise. VW ist auch ein Symptom des bildungspolitischen Niedergangs Deutschlands.

Deswegen entwickeln sie jetzt lieber alle im China. Dort sind sie nicht nur deutlich billiger, sonder auch deutlich besser ausgebildet.

They waited until most EP members were on holiday so only a few were present and then created an "urgent" vote for it to pass it through

Its scalps include 10 data center moratoria, 1 permanent data center ban, and 4 rejected or scrapped AI projects.

In Part II of our foreign influence investigation, BPI exposes the Party for Socialism and Liberation (or PSL) as the political arm of Shanghai-based Neville Singham, and lays bare a national campaign launched by the party to stop America’s data center buildout.

Singham is the subject of multiple federal investigations into his reported ties to the CCP. Our research uncovers the anti-data-center organizing of his activist vehicle, the PSL, across 21 campaigns in 14 states, in roles ranging from lead organizer to one member of a broader coalition.

This report adds to the mounting evidence that China and its surrogates are committed to stopping America’s data center buildout so that Beijing can gain the advantage in the AI race.

I think in a few years we'll discover the same foreign funding is responsible for the degrowth movement in Europe

It's a trick to make your rivals poor and backwards so you can then outcompete them

We know for a fact the nuclear power plant closures in Germany where due to activists funded by Russia (even the European Parliament published the evidence for that!)

The anti-AI, anti-AC, pro-low quality immigration and general anti-growth is a perfect movement to amplify for foreign countries to make Europe become poor and backwards, beware!

As someone who lives in Portugal which already stops every single package you get from outside EU with no exceptions for a decade or more:

I can tell you how this will go

From now on if you receive a package from outside EU, it'll first go missing for weeks and nobody will know where it is, then you'll receive an email from your country's customs agency

They'll make you login to some extremely unusable and outdated web portal which breaks half the time and where you have to classify your shipment in one of 10,000 confusing category codes

Depending on the category code you'll pay a different tax rate, sometimes it's 5% sometimes it's 60%

Then you have to pay the customs duty in some archaic way that will also be broken half the time

And then you'll finally receive your package from outside EU after months

Experiencing this for a few times you'll realize you will never ever try to order or receive anything from outside EU ever because the ordeal is too painful and expensive

I get asked a lot here by people from US to test out new products (like the guy who made the Minimal Phone) and it's just literally impossible for me to receive it even for testing. I tried to classify it as samples for testing but you need to go through a bureaucratic process of insane lengths to get that through so I just gave up

Realistically all this does is make Europeans live even more in the stone ages, as now they can't use modern AI, nor get modern products from outside EU because it'll be too much hassle to order

I think the pity and mockery stems from so many Europeans (usually institutions/"experts") dismissing AC's utility. The vast majority of the debate is not over the mechanics and logistics of deployment, but whether widespread AC is in principle desirable in the first place. I think it garners so much attention from Americans (and Europeans such as myself) because it's a vivid distillation of the self-destructive "degrowth" hysteria that is so prevalent and harmful in many European policy matters. It is the same impulse that led to Germany decommissioning its nuclear capacity, and it is a substantial contributor to the broader economic challenges of the continent.

Handelt es sich um einen bedauerliche Einzelfall?

Kaum. In einigen Etagen der Brüsseler Institutionen, v.a. in den höheren, kann man inzwischen von der Existenz nahezu burschenschaftlicher Netzwerke ausgehen, die um politische oder nationale Familien herum entstanden sind. Und da gilt - allen akribisch als „Verhaltensregeln für EU-Beamte“ kodifizierten Regularien zum Trotz - am Ende eben doch: eine Hand wäscht die andere. Freunde werden auf gut dotierte Versorgungsposten geschoben, die auf Steuerzahlerkosten notfalls auch neu geschaffen werden: So etwa der für den in Katargate involvierten griechischen Exkommissar Avramopoulos (EVP) geschaffene (überflüssige) Posten eines „Sonderbeauftragten für die Golfregion“, der nach Bekanntwerden des Korruptionsskandals an Ex-MEP Di Maio ging. Oder der (überflüssige) Posten eines „Direktors für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Voraussicht“, auf den EVP-Chef Manfred Weber seinen Freund, strategischen Einflüsterer und Ex-Sprecher Udo Zolleis zu setzen gedenkt (Monatsgehalt: mind. 18.000 €). Geschaffen wurde der Posten für Webers Freund übrigens von EP-Generalsekretär Allessandro Chiocchetti, dessen Ernennung selbst mit der Schaffung von Posten verbunden war: Parlamentspräsidentin Roberta Metsola schuf zwei hohe Parlamentsstellen (für Linke & Liberale), um deren Stimmen für die „Wahl“ ihres Kabinettschefs & Wunschkandidaten Chiocchetti sicherzustellen. Oder schließlich Frau VdLeyen selbst, die für ihren langjährigen PR-Berater Jens Flosdorff, den sie auf regulärem Weg nicht einstellen konnte, da er die für EU-Beamte vorgeschriebenen Qualifikationen nicht besaß, kurzerhand eine eigene Stelle schuf - mit höchstmöglichem Dienst- und Entlohungsgrad, versteht sich.

Mogherini selbst hat ihren Rektorinnenposten in Brügge auf keine andere Art bekommen: weder erfüllte sie das offizielle Qualifikationsprofil noch hatte sie sich an geltende Vorschriften gehalten: Ihre „Bewerbung“, obwohl diese schriftlich verlangt wird, hatte sie durch Zuruf eingereicht - und zwar Monate nach Ablauf der Bewerbungsfrist. Dass sie die Stelle dennoch mühelos erhalten hat, geht letztlich auf die Fürsprache & Unterstützung vonderLeyens und das Einverständnis von Herman Van Rompuy zurück, der Präsident des Verwaltungsrats des Kollegs ist.

Wenn bei einer öffentlichen Ausschreibung des Europäischen Auswärtigen Dienstes der dortige Entscheidungsträger (und Italiener) Sannino einer Italienerin, die auch noch an der Spitze einer aus Sicht der EU-Institutionen (politisch) erwünschten Drittinstitution (College of Europe) sitzt, wie durch Zauberhand den Zuschlag für EU-Gelder erhält, kann mich das wirklich nicht mehr überraschen.

Wie soll die EU der Ukraine Werte vermitteln, wenn es ums eigene Haus schon nicht gut bestellt ist?

Eine gute Frage, die sich die EU selbst natürlich niemals stellen würde. Bei einem gründlichen Blick auf die EU fragt man sich allmählich, ob die für die Verwendung des Begriffs der „endemischen Korruption“ vorgegebene Taktzahl an Unregelmäßigkeiten, Machtmissbrauch & Korruptionsvorfällen nicht schon erreicht und überschritten ist.

Von Emmanuel Todd stammt eine in diesem Zusammenhang bedenkenswerte Beobachtung. Dem in Brüssel vertretenen Theorie- und Selbstverständnis liegt die Annahme zugrunde, dass mit jeder EU-Expansion die eigenen Standards auf die Beitrittskandidaten übertragen würden - durch jahrelanges „Monitoring“ & Prüfverfahren der Kommission sowie durch bloße (ideologische) Berührung. Osmose aber ist keine Einbahnstraße. Denn in Wirklichkeit, sagt Todd, hat sich mit jeder ihrer Erweiterungsrunden v.a. die EU selbst verändert. Im Zuge ihrer Ausdehnung hat die EU eben nicht nur ihre eigenen Standards exportiert, sondern auch die historischen Prägungen und politischen Kulturen der beigetretenen Staaten nach Brüssel importiert. Mit Blick auf den Beitrittsprozess der Ukraine könnte man zynisch formulieren: Eigentlich war vorgesehen, dass die Ukraine sich den in der EU geltenden Standards nähert. Unter vonderLeyen ist leider versehentlich das Gegenteil passiert: nicht die Ukraine hat sich der EU, sondern die EU der Ukraine angeglichen.

- find large files
- ask to break up, improve code quality, add tests
Once done, ask "now that you read the code, what can we improve?"
- store that in a tracker file (i use docs/refactor/*.md) and let the model pick

🇪🇺 ChatControl is back!

Now they're trying to pass an even more far reaching ChatControl law through the back door, in a form even more intrusive than the originally rejected plan, without needing any of the EU countries votes

The new proposal:
- total mandatory surveillance of ALL text chats, emails and social media in the EU
- obligatory registration of your ID/passport to your chat, email or social media account
- minimum age requirement for chat, email and social media apps of 16 (!)

The only way to stop this law is if EU countries veto it

Elon Musk came up with a pretty incredible idea during the Q3 Earnings Call, that no one is really talking about.

His words: “Actually, one of the things I thought, if we've got all these cars that maybe are bored, while they're sort of, if they are bored, we could actually have a giant distributed inference fleet and say, if they're not actively driving, let's just have a giant distributed inference fleet.
At some point, if you've got tens of millions of cars in the fleet, or maybe at some point 100 million cars in the fleet, and let's say they had at that point, I don't know, a kilowatt of inference capability, of high-performance inference capability, that's 100 gigawatts of inference distributed with power and cooling taken, with cooling and power conversion taken care of. That seems like a pretty significant asset.”

So basically, each car has ~1 kilowatt of high-performance AI inference capability, Tesla wouldn’t need to build giant data centers — the fleet is the data center.

Tesla could turn their entire fleet into a giant distributed inference network, spread across the world, powered by the batteries and AI in the car already.

I had this intuitively wrong for decades, I think due to a pervasive cultural veneration of intelligence, various entertainment/media, obsession with IQ etc. Agency is significantly more powerful and significantly more scarce. Are you hiring for agency? Are we educating for agency? Are you acting as if you had 10X agency?
