"Doctor of Medicine" literally means "Teacher of Medicine."
It does not mean prescriber, order-entry clerk, slicer, stabber, or biller.
Who should we teach? Patients, students, friends, family, public, and elected leaders.
First priority is to teach.
ICYMI: Earlier this year, the former U.S. Surgeon General warned of strong links between alcohol use and cancer risk.
Sylvester researchers analyzed national data and found that alcohol-related cancer deaths in the U.S. nearly doubled from 1990 to 2021—rising from under 12,000 to over 23,000 annually. The increase is largely driven by men aged 20-54, while rates in women declined slightly.
Dr. Chinmay Jani (@Jani_Chinmay) presented the findings at the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting, where the abstract earned the ASCO Merit Award. Senior author Dr. Gilberto Lopes (@GlopesMd) calls for greater awareness and more in-depth research into alcohol’s role in cancer development. Learn more: https://t.co/7H57Kb67fF #ASCO25
