Happy International Day of Medical Physics (and Maria Sklodowska Curie's birthday) ! Medical Physics will play an increasing role our newly announced RadNet award, with a focus on #AI and virtual clinical trials. #IDMP2024#medphys#radonc@RT_physics
We wanted to highlight another amazing of our clinical colleagues who work closely with, and support PRECISE.
Meet Dr. Adam Aitkenhead, PhD. Clinical Scientist in the Proton Therapy Physics Group.
The Research Room is the 4th gantry room at the Christie NHS. The beamline is 100% dedicated to research. We can only use the beamline when patients aren’t being treated, meaning all our experiments are done overnight. Here's a quick tour of the Research Room.
VHEE (Very High Energy Electron) beams are a promising alternative to conventional radiotherapy due to their highly penetrating nature and their potential for efficient FLASH (ultra-high dose-rate) radiotherapy. #cancer#radiotherapy#VHEE#FLASH
Congratulations Hannah Wanstall, a

student in my group on: "VHEE FLASH sparing effect measured at CLEAR, CERN with DNA damage of pBR322 plasmid as a biological endpoint." You can read it here: https://t.co/ecEAUHpYt3
Congratulations to Hannah Wanstall a @UoMPhysics@cockcroft_news
PhD student in my group who passed her viva on Cancer cell survival & RBE on irradiation by VHEE beams at CLARA, ARES and CLEAR. Well done and congratulations for excellent work!Three journal papers also in print!

A perfect marriage of Accelerator Physics and Medical Physics, one further step towards VHEE therapy cancer treatment of deep seated tumours and with the potential for efficient application of a new paradigm in radiotherapy, FLASH.
Congratulations Hannah Wanstall @UoMPhysics@OfficialUoM student and @cockcroft_news student. First for 154 MeV VHEE RBE on living cancer cells at DESY lab's exquisitely stable ARES machine! Seamless collaboration @desy@TheChristieNHS Publ today: https://t.co/NHlFHtiEuZ
Time to do an experiment with the present offered by Kenes @FRPT23. As you see Xo is doubting, I hope for nice results 😊. What about yours @karenjoykirkby @MKoritzinsky @JanPOSchuemann? #FLASH#Kenes team thank you for the fantastic job at promoting FLASH
📢 “I believe FLASH will be revolutionary,” says Dr. Petersson
🚀 The field of radiotherapy is undergoing evolution, with these advancements enabling more effective cancer treatment while minimizing side effects.

Visiting our newly opened opened #protontherapy center with some @MDAndersonNews Division Heads today. Collaborating across disciplines is critical to our mission to #endcancer.
Excited to share our latest paper in @IJROBP : https://t.co/PSWfgyMOKV, highlighting that @Flash proton radiotherapy mitigates radiation-induced heart disease.
The Department of Radiation Oncology @UCIRadOnc at @UCIrvine has two open Medical Physics faculty positions. Dm me if you’re interested in joining a rapidly expanding RadOnc Department in the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Orange County
