Pali: A timeless bridge connecting the shared Buddhist heritage of 🇮🇳 & 🇱🇰.

Participated in the Symposium on “Strengthening Pali Language Studies in Sri Lanka: A Strategic Roadmap for Revival and Global Engagement” organised in collaboration with @iccr_hq and @pathfinderSL, in Colombo.

Highlighted the importance of preserving Pali as a language that carries the timeless wisdom of the Buddha and strengthens the shared civilisational bond between 🇮🇳 and 🇱🇰.

In October 2024, under the leadership of PM @narendramodi the Government of India conferred Classical Language status on Pali, reflecting 🇮🇳’s deep commitment to preserving and propagating Buddhist heritage and culture.

Santosh Jha (@santjha), High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, and Ms. Roshni Thomson (@roshnithomson), First Secretary, High Commission of India, Colombo.

The High Commissioner outlined the evolving bilateral context. The meeting provided an opportunity to explore avenues through which RIS can further contribute to strengthening India-Sri Lanka relations through evidence-based policy research. Discussions focused on undertaking analytical studies on bilateral trade and the India-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (ISFTA), as well as organising joint workshops in collaboration with local partner institutions to foster deeper policy engagement and knowledge exchange.

The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing research-driven dialogue and collaborative initiatives in support of stronger bilateral cooperation and sustainable regional development.

Commemorating the Bak Full Moon Poya, @IndiainSL organised an exhibition ‘Buddham Sharanam Gacchami’ at Mulagandhakuti Piriven Maha Viharaya, Welisara, featuring artworks on the life and teachings of Lord Buddha by icons of modern Indian art.

Alongside, an exhibition on 🇮🇳’s Rich Buddhist Heritage showcased key Buddhist sites in India.

Sinhala Jataka Tales were also distributed to student monks and Dhamma school children, sharing timeless values with the next generation.

📚 @IndiainSL donated books to the Colombo Public Library, at the event ‘Tomorrow’s Colombo’ hosted by Mayor of Colombo @VraieB, as a contribution to the ‘100 for 100’ campaign and building on the Bharat Kosh (India Corner) inaugurated on 12 Aug 2024 at the library. The event featured vibrant illustrations by school children depicting a future Colombo.

A group of 30 media professionals from Sri Lanka will attend a knowledge exchange and capacity building programme in Hyderabad from 26 Jan–1 Feb 2026. An interactive session for the participants was held at the High Commission ahead of their departure.
The initiative is part of 🇮🇳's enhanced capacity-building framework covering 1000 🇱🇰 civil service officers and professionals annually.

Operation Sagar Bandhu, India’s support continues

The 4th Indian Air Force C-17 🛬 has touched down in Colombo, carrying 55 tonnes of Bailey Bridge stores, a JCB, and 13 Engineer Corps personnel to aid ongoing relief and reconstruction efforts in Sri Lanka.

The 4th C17 aircraft, third one carrying Bailey Bridge units arrived in Colombo today. It had about 55 tonnes of Bailey Bridge stores, a JCB and 13 personnel from Engineer corps.

@IAF_MCC C17 Globemaster aircraft brought in, a rapidly deployable field hospital, complete with ambulances, trauma care units, operation theatres etc. to 🇱🇰 today (02), along with 73 medical personnel. The field hospital was handed over to the Sri Lankan side by High Commissioner @santjha. It will be deployed tommorrow to cater to urgent medical requirements in flood-hit and landslide hit areas.
