Happy International Teacher’s Day!
Behind every learner who finally understands a difficult lesson, finds the courage to ask a question, or begins to believe in what they can achieve, there is often a teacher who made the difference.
Today, @Rwanda_Edu celebrates you. Thank you for your patience, dedication and for helping Rwanda’s children build the knowledge, skills and confidence to shape their own future—and ours.
This week at the #NNN2026 conference in Kigali, themed “People, Systems & Resilience: Adapting NTD Responses Through Holistic Approaches,” @RwandaNGOForum joined fellow NTD partners for a workshop, “Local Champions, Lasting Impact: Building Capacity for Equitable and Sustainable NTD Solutions.”
We presented our work with the Rwanda Malaria & NTDs Youth Corps @MalariaNTDcorps in @BugeseraDistr and @RuhangoDistrict . Through a formal structure co-supported by @TheENDFund and ALMA and also working closely with @RBCRwanda and district leaders, young people are moving from beneficiaries to active implementers of NTD prevention. They lead community education, support mass drug administration and work alongside community health workers, opinion leaders and WASH structures to drive social and behaviour change.
Together with partners from Ethiopia, Kenya and Zimbabwe, we explored approaches to reaching groups that are often left behind, including fishermen, marshland farmers, rural women, people with disabilities and out-of-school children.
Our key takeaway: lasting impact is built when local champions own the work and NTD action is embedded in district plans and supported by sustainable domestic financing.

#Rwanda has built one of the strongest #HIV responses on the continent and globe at large.
Sustaining it, however, especially as external funding shifts, means putting those most at tisk, living with and affected at the centre of the response and ensuring they lead the way. They should be the architects of the response, not its beneficiaries, and this is demonstrated in #practice, not in #papers.
With support from @UNAIDSRwanda, we at @RwandaNGOForum have been working to bring this to life. Communities themselves document their experiences of availability, accessibility, acceptability, and quality of services. Those findings then go back to decision-makers as data/insights they cannot ignore.
Special thanks to @UNAIDSRwanda for backing community-led monitoring. The work continues, and it belongs to the communities who make it possible.#LetCommunityLead #HealthEquity #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #GenderEquality #AnythingForUsWithoutUsIsAgainstUs

HIV progress is measured in percentages, but it's lived by people. To end AIDS by 2030, we need to hear from those still facing stigma and barriers to care. Community-led monitoring does exactly that.

Today, Rwanda Biomedical Centre, in collaboration with One Health partners, joined residents of Kinigi in Musanze District to mark World Rabies Day and raise awareness about preventing rabies and other zoonotic diseases.
As part of ongoing efforts around Volcanoes National Park, residents brought their dogs for registration, vaccination, and sterilization.
These actions help prevent dog bites, reduce the risk of rabies transmission, and protect both people and animals.

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is 100% preventable.
Wash bites immediately with soap and water, seek prompt medical care and vaccinate dogs annually to achieve zero human deaths by 2030.

Today, the world celebrates #WorldRabiesDay2026!
The most effective way to stop rabies is at its source: get your dogs and cats vaccinated on time.
Protect your pets, protect your family!

🇷🇼’s progress towards the 96-98-98 HIV targets is a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved through strong political leadership, community engagement, science, partnership, and coordinated national actions. This progress would not have been possible without sustained investment in the national HIV response and the meaningful engagement of communities and community-led organizations.
Community-led organizations have been and remain the backbone of 🇷🇼’s #HIV, #TB and #Malaria response. They bring services closer to people, particularly vulnerable and high risk populations; strengthen linkages to prevention, testing, treatment and care; advocate for human rights, fight stigma and discrimination; and generate community-level evidence that helps decision-makers identify gaps and improve the quality and responsiveness of the HIV, TB and Malaria response.
Importantly, 🇷🇼's communities have demonstrated strong resilience despite a rapidly changing and increasingly constrained international funding landscape. However, resilience should not be interpreted as an alternative to sustainable financing.
⏩⏩ If we are serious about ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, we must sustain the systems that enable communities to remain active, informed and connected to the health response.
This is where Community-Led Monitoring (CLM), particularly 🇷🇼’s integrated CLM model and System (#iCLM), is strategically important. It provides a people-centred mechanism for communities to systematically collect, analyze and use real-time evidence on the Accessibility, Availability, Acceptance, Quality, and Responsiveness of health services.
⏩⏩ By connecting community experiences with facility level performance and national decision-making, #iCLM strengthens accountability and enables evidence-based course correction.
So, it is high time to build on this opportunity for iCLM platform by integrating HIV, TB and Malaria with other health priorities, including #NTDs #SRHR #NCDs, #MentalHealth, #Climate related health risks and Pandemic Preparedness, Prevention and Response (#PPPR).
⏩⏩ Such integration will reduce fragmentation, strengthen community surveillance and feedback mechanisms, improve the use of resources and establish a more resilient community health information architecture.
Key Note:
The science and the tools are available. What is needed now is:
✅ Sustained solidarity, predictable financing and strong community systems to translate evidence and innovation into lasting health outcomes

HAPPY WORLD CONTRACEPTION DAY 2026
Contraceptive access is about more than preventing unintended pregnancies. It is about giving people the ability to plan their lives, pursue their aspirations and make decisions about their futures.
When barriers to contraception remain, so does the gap between having a right and being able to exercise it.
This #WorldContraceptionDay , let’s move from availability to accessibility, from policy to implementation, and from information to meaningful choice.
