In a meta-analysis of pancreatoduodenectomy, broader antibiotic prophylaxis was associated with fewer infectious complications, suggesting broader coverage may represent a potential new standard. https://t.co/GSATKOclr7
@FlavioRochaMD@HenryPittMD@AHPBA Data piling up showing improved infectious outcomes with extended prophylaxis in patients with preop stents in place - subject of upcoming NSQIP-based randomized trial! Discussion tomorrow in HPB Collaborative session @AHPBA#AHPBA26
@cchildersmd@TheNotoriousHPB@FlavioRochaMD@HenryPittMD@AHPBA Totally agree. The first NSQIP-based trial showing reduced SSI with standard periop pip-tazo included both stented and unstented patients, but extended prophylaxis should be likely target high-risk cases (e.g., longstanding preop stent). Trial studying this coming soon!
