NEET was introduced with three principal promises: (1) reduce the burden, (2) eliminate commercialisation, and (3) improve standards.

On every one of these counts, #NEET has failed. It has merely shifted the centre of learning from schools to coaching centres.

The problem with NEET has always been structural, not merely procedural. Recent events have vindicated that concern.

The ongoing student protests must serve as a wake-up call for the Union Government. It's time to trust the states. It's time to abolish NEET.

I strongly condemn the high-handedness of the police against CJP youth who were peacefully participating in a rally over the NEET discrepancies.

The visuals from Delhi are shocking.

Instead of addressing their concerns, the government is responding with its police force. This is unacceptable in a democracy.

For more than a decade now, DMK has been advocating abolition of NEET.

Today, Tamil Nadu's voice against NEET is resonating across the nation, including from the national capital.

The demand of the Nation's Youth is clear. Listen to them.

நாகர்கோவிலைச் சேர்ந்த மாற்றுத்திறனாளி இளைஞரான சபரிவர்மன் காவல்துறையால் கைது செய்யப்பட்ட நிலையில் நீதிமன்றக்காவலில் மரணம் அடைந்து இருப்பது அறிந்து அதிர்ச்சியுற்றேன்.

கைதானபோது நல்ல ஆரோக்கியத்துடன் இருந்த சபரிவர்மன், விசாரணை முடிந்து சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்ட போது, உடல்நலக்குறைவால் இறந்துவிட்டார் என்று காவல்துறை தரப்பில் சொல்லப்படுகிறது.

ஆனால், மரணமடைந்த சபரிவர்மனின் உடல் முழுவதும் காயங்கள் இருந்ததாகவும், அவரை மாற்றுத்திறனாளி என்றும் பாராமல் காவல்துறையினர் அடித்தே கொலை செய்துள்ளதாகவும் சபரிவர்மனின் குடும்பத்தார் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர்.

காவல்துறையை தனது கட்டுப்பாட்டில் வைத்திருக்கும் முதலமைச்சர் இதற்கு உரிய பதில் சொல்ல வேண்டும்.

சபரிவர்மனின் கடையில் குட்கா பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்டதாக, அவரை கைது செய்த காவல்துறையினர், ஈரோட்டில் குட்கா விற்றதாக கைது செய்யப்பட்ட த.வெ.க. நிர்வாகி அருணை அன்றே சொந்த ஜாமினில் விடுவித்துள்ளனர்.

சபரிவர்மன் எனும் சாமானியருக்கு ஒரு சட்டம், த.வெ.க நிர்வாகி என்றால் வேறொரு சட்டம் என்னும் காவல்துறையின் போக்குக் கண்டிக்கத்தக்கது.

இந்தச்சம்பவத்தில் தொடர்புடைய காவலர்கள் மீது தக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுப்பதோடு, சபரிவர்மனின் மரணத்திற்குக் காரணமானவர்களுக்கு உரிய தண்டனையைப் பெற்றுத்தர வேண்டும்.

சபரிவர்மனின் மரணத்துக்கு நீதி கிடைப்பதை இந்த அரசு உறுதி செய்ய வேண்டும்.

Yesterday, I mentioned how young women from other states working in a footwear shop in Chennai earn around ₹35,000 to₹40,000 a month, including incentives.

I visit a popular salon chain. My regular hairstylist is from West Bengal and has been living in Chennai for nearly a decade. His wife, also from Bengal, works as a hairstylist in a different chain. The couple has one daughter, who studies in their hometown and stays with her grandparents.

Together, they earn more than ₹1 lakh a month from salaries, incentives, and customer tips. He says he never imagined he could earn this much. Over the years, they have saved around ₹25 lakh, excluding their provident fund.

The salon chains they work for regularly provide training on new products and trends. This continuous upskilling keeps them professionally updated and employable.

He mentioned that although no one in Chennai speaks Hindi, no one has ever treated him badly for being from another state. He is grateful that Chennai has positively transformed his family’s financial trajectory.

There is a huge perception gap between the reality of how welcoming and opportunity rich Chennai is and the false narratives being spread about it.
