So excited about this - synthetic human organogenesis in a dish. I appreciate @AllenInstitute support and vision - funding potentially transformative ideas not likely to be funded by traditional sources. Look forward to working w @VallierLab and @RobSchwartzLab!
This is not justice. Its punishing one man for a specific crime. Justice is dismantling the system that allowed and encouraged this Chauvin and many others to take the lives of Black people for no other reason than to indulge their own racism.
We are excited to make small progress in generating organ specific microvascular structures in anatomical scale! More work to do to get on the real function!
The vaccine shortage doesn't need to exist. Pfizer and Moderna could share their design with the dozens of other pharma companies who stand ready to produce their vaccines and end the pandemic.
@NIH R01’s from White scientists are funded at ~twice the award rate as Black scientists.

@amjeve Hi @amjeve – thanks for the Q! We often use urea synthesis, PAS staining (glycogen storage), LDL uptake, and CYP3A4 activity as other metrics of function for liver organoids in vitro. And we are working on methods for more functional metrics of engineered liver tissues in vivo!
And finally, we worked with @kellystevenslab to study primary hepatic aggregates in perfused gels. 3D dendritic networks can support these delicate cell aggregates by getting them the oxygen + nutrients they need. 6/
