@Colt_Shelby@BritMcKenzieAR Vouchers are a math problem. The outcry 30 years ago from the operatives was student teacher ratios were not high enough causing increased cost (consolidation) fewer schools. Now the operatives want lower student teacher ratios fund basically more schools.
Like many of you, I am exhausted with certain influencers, politicians, idealogical media, and others that have turned what we used to call “spin” into a remorseless culture of lying and mistruths. Perhaps it has always been this dire but now magnified by our fast moving digital world, but nevertheless it’s reached an unbearable point. There seems to be no shame for simply making stuff up, bearing false witnesses, and spewing lies for their own purposes and benefit. To the contrary, they are rewarded for it with power and money. What a sad way to earn a living and go through life, but unfortunately, it has become acceptable for way too many. And with the technological advancement of our society, we are all constantly subjected to it. I can’t be the only one who feels this way.
For some time, I’ve wanted to get my Bible out and remind myself what it says about these things and the consequences of such actions. Before I do, my disclaimer: (1) I am a sinner in my own right and fall short regularly. (2) I am not preaching at you. (3) I do not claim to be a biblical scholar. (4) And I don’t make a habit of quoting Bible verses on Twitter. I did grow up in Sunday School and know my way around the Bible, and yes, I should probably open it up more now than I do.
Exodus 20:16 says “you shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.”
Proverbs 6:16 -19 “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him…. A lying tongue; a heart that devises wicked schemes; a false witness who pours out lies; and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.”
Proverbs 12:19-20 “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace.”
Proverbs 12:22 “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.”
Proverbs 14:5 “A truthful witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies.”
Proverbs 19:5 “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will not go free.”
Proverbs 19:9 “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will perish.”
Revelation 21:8 “…all liars will have their place in the fiery lake of burning sulfur.”
John 8:44 - When Jesus was speaking about Satan …”When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
Matthew 15:18 Jesus spoke “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man unclean … false testimony and slander.”
Whether you believe in God or not, these elementary principles will hopefully resonate. Indeed, it doesn’t take a believer to recognize that lying and deception is wrong. But why are we all tolerating it?
So, the next time your favorite influencer, politician, idealogical media, or other social media personality intentionally speaks mistruths, don’t chalk it up as acceptable “spin.” They are lies. They are bearing false witness. Call it and recognize it for what it is.
Finally, one of my best friends always says “the truth will always win.” Lately, I have been questioning that conclusion. But it will in the end. It will in the end.
@Colt_Shelby The pragmatic leadership we leaned on in past administrations is missing. The only option to slow down the political operatives is for the leg to stiffen its neck.
