@Kehyslop Even in the era of purported declines in enrolment, the VSB presented aggregate numbers for elem and sec, when declines were usu. in sec alone. Yet, elem schools were where most school closures + "disposals" occurred. More daylight is needed on VSB data and governance!
Parents in the UBC neighbourhoods and the endowment lands are increasingly frustrated at overcrowding in the two elementary schools on the peninsula, Norma Rose Point and University Hill Elementary.

@vikkhanna@VSBEngagement How (un)surprising that these revised projections now bring the VSB's enrolment numbers closer in line with Ministry of Education data - data the VSB adamantly told the public and argued in court was non-credible!
@vikkhanna@VSBEngagement It is a travesty that parents' case in the Supreme Court to save QEA school was unsuccessful because the VSB argued (and a judge believed), mere months ago, that enrolments will decline in Van and any growth was a 1 year anomaly. Tragic the VSB knew full well that was untrue!
#vanpoli#bced
VSB staff throw in the towel on "enrolment decline" narrative and now switch to predicting big growth.
VSB will soon admit that it is in an elementary school space crisis.
Some VSB Trustees will run for the hills and seek other political positions. Makes sense.
@InspiredAquaCA@vikkhanna@bcndp And, they closed Queen Elizabeth Annex saying that was necessary for construction of the Olympic Village school. After all the lies, there's no Olympic Village school and no QEA. They didn't build the Olympic Village school, and use its absence as a way to close other schools.
@vikkhanna@RazzberryYams@yvryimby@LennyNanZhou@GeorgeHeyman@MichaelLeeBC@JagrupBrar1@Taleeb Schools're far more than places to educate children. They're the hub of the community, bringing people of all ages together. They, like the 7-10 minute walk neighbourhood centre, must be within walking distance for the children & adults. That's how real community is created.
Vancouver shouldn't pass a school board budget without informed input from public stakeholders.
There is no reason to compress the budget timeline.
Jennifer is bringing two motions to VSB tonight: https://t.co/XA2bWHquq4
Why does the @CityofVancouver continue to just take the junk that the @VSB39 provides and use it for urban planning? Why is province not checking; what type of communities are we building, @jtferrier?
People who know how dense Kingsway & Joyce is & will become, please comment.
FYI - For anyone in #bced or #vanpoli interested in student enrolment numbers, the 2023/2024 data set is now available through BC Open Data https://t.co/5B6mzmxTWE
For anyone interested in @VSB39 enrolment numbers here is what they look like this year. @VanDPAC, @reddyforchange
Day 5 before J. Gomery. It has taken A LOT to get here. Parents should not need to take a school board to court to get transparency, proper process, and fair decisions.
@j_mcelroy Yes! Having no official highway through the city isn't quite the success Vancouver thinks it is when the city just runs highway levels of traffic down its arterial streets instead.
3/6 It's critical because data informs policy, funding, and perception. The VSB is pushing outdated data onto public record, aiming to fabricate a false narrative of decline. 💼🔍
Is #vanpoli stupid? Will it work? I hope not! Consequences are severe.
