@krishnanrohit Which is why it’s a good thing that we have multiple tribes simultaneously maintaining their own realities. What looks like dysfunction is actually information preservation.
Every single assessment about morality, progress and possible outcome of the Iran war I read is 100% correlated with whether the author likes or hates Trump. It's pretty annoying
Homeopathic medicine is perfect for this. I used to make fun of it, but it provides real utility for my wife who NEEDS to treat her children.
In Hong Kong it there is at least one Chinese medicine storefront on every single block. I’m convinced US could halve its medical expenses by letting people self medicate with relatively harmless teas and broths.
The thing I find most difficult to believe about the Anthropic vs US Gov situation is that someone actually read a software company’s Terms of Service.
My daughter has a school assigned Chromebook with a hodgepodge of low quality, difficult to use, educational apps. Her history book is available “online” but really it’s just a difficult to read copy of the physical book. It would be amazing if she had something that was interactive. Why not have videos and quizzes and spaced repitition and add some dopamine hits to keep them engaged? These aren’t even new ideas. It’s sad really.
I’m LONG everything.
- America will fix its problems
- no war with China
- wars in Europe and the Middle East end
- we will solve housing
- we will solve addiction
- we will fix social security and the debt problem
- California will wake up and get out of its own way
- we will legalize building again
- billionaires will build great public projects
No doomerism.
The world will get richer, safer, and more peaceful.
More people will get medicine and money and buy cool shit.
I’m long everything.
@Plinz How do you avoid this? People decide what science is done, what is promoted (or the inverse), what is reviewed, what is funded, how it is taught, and who should do it. All of those exist in the domain of ideology. It's like swimming without submitting to the tyranny of water.
I don’t think you can eliminate Marxist ideologies through force. They flow from a natural human proto-Marxist impulse. It might be a solid survival strategy to gang up on the big monkey who’s not sharing his bananas.
In a more complex society built on property rights and innovation it’s a vestige. It feels right to many people (particularly the young) and I t’s abstract enough to easily reframe into whatever the current struggle of the day is.
The way to defeat it isn’t to squash it. It will just rise up from the ashes in a new form. We need an outlet for it. Maybe we could channel it into a pastime like we do with physical aggression and sports. I don’t have any great ideas though.
