🔴 1/ You do not attend talks. You build something.
⚫️ 2/ You work in a cross-disciplinary team, not alone.
🔵 3/ You leave with a preregistered plan, not just notes.
⚪️ 4/ Your work can be funded.
And applications are officially OPEN.
Deadline to apply to join us is --- April 13
🔸Work with open consciousness datasets
🔸Build a preregistered research project with an interdisciplinary team
🔸Compete for $25,000 in seed funding to carry it forward
Something is emerging in Santiago this July. A new kind of scientific gathering. Open data. Interdisciplinary teams. A shared question that's been challenging researchers for decades. Introducing Consciousness Commons: A satellite workshop for early-career researchers @assc2026
Human cortical pyramidal neurons are larger, exhibit more complex branching patterns, and feature distinctly nonlinear biophysical properties compared to rat cortical pyramidal neurons.
Do these unique characteristics make human neurons more functionally complex?
Would that enhance the capability of the human brain to perform complex computational tasks?
Is this what makes us human?
In our new preprint (see below) with @danielayoeli, @DavidBeniaguev, Christiaan de Kock, @mikilon, and @Segev_Lab we use deep learning to tackle these questions by comparing the complexity of neurons’ input-output (I/O) functions using our newly developed Functional Complexity Index (FCI) tool. Like most people I have no idea where my ancestors lived 3,000, 1,000, or even 500 years ago. I do know that if it was established that these ancestors were born and bred in Portugal, Yemen, Sri Lanka, or Kyrgyzstan I wouldn’t make the absurd claim that I am indigenous to that country and additionally insist that I have a greater right to be there than its present inhabitants.
Ready to discuss? 👂 On Nov, 26 the Open #Science#Workshop will take place at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical #Aesthetics. Join us for interesting talks on challenges of open science practices! Register here: https://t.co/J0c2bs9fWM

New priprint!
When I started my PhD (ages ago), I ran what I thought was a pilot for several iconic memory experiments down the line. This was interesting because iconic memory is (allegedly) linked to rich perceptual experience, and so I had many questions. 1/🧵
