I know this is a fresh wound, but if you are a tenant in Windhoek, your rent may be about to go up. The @CoWMunicipality has decided to increase its tariff by 4%.
This is frustrating. These tariffs climb almost every year, yet Windhoek is not getting cleaner or better run. If anything, many services feel like they are going backwards. We pay more and more, and somehow get less and less for it.
When a landlord's costs go up, those costs rarely stay with them. They get passed down to you, through your rent. So an increase like this at city level often becomes a bigger number at the bottom of your lease.
Everything keeps getting more expensive these days, except our income.
This is not financial advice, just something to think about
Last week I showed you the R350 000 car that actually costs R600 000.
Today, the big one. The R1 million house🏡
Financed the normal way, you will pay R2 355 944 for it.
Here's the maths the bank buries in page 9 of your bond documents 🧵
"I have 3 Bachelors degrees. Before me, no one in my family has earned a bachelors degree. Bachelors Degree is greater than a doctorate."
Pure definition of Immaturity..
So because you didn't win it, the next thing is to discredit the competition. Pathetic!
We've got you figured out. A selfish self centred human being who is all about himself and diminishing the achievement of others.
You can read all the books. Watch all the documentaries. Listen to all the stories. But nothing, and I mean nothing, will prepare you for certain moments in life until you're standing in them yourself. Marriage. Divorce. Childbirth. Losing someone you love. Parenting. They all look so different when it's your heart on the line. Your choices. Your pain. Your mess. Your miracle.
It's easy to sit on the outside with theories, opinions, and assumptions. It's easy to think you'd handle it better. Until life turns to you and says, "Your turn." And suddenly, you understand. You understand the tears. The silence. The fight to keep going. The strength it takes to show up when everything feels heavy. The courage it takes to start over.
Life has a way of humbling us all. So be slow to judge, quick to offer grace, and always remember, what you don't understand today, you just might face tomorrow. We're all just figuring it out as we go. And that's more than okay.
The Bible is so clear on how important it is to never look back. Not at an old position, an old ex, an old friendship, or even old ways that God has brought you out of. There are many people in the Bible but in clear words, God tells us to "remember Lot's wife"; who turned into... a pillar of salt! Stuck in time. I pray that when you're tempted to "go back," the spirit of God reminds you that you have too much to look forward to
There’s a scene in Breaking Bad where Walter White’s wife realizes he’s made $7.5 million and says:
“There’s no way we can wash this money through a car wash. No car wash in the world makes that kind of money in a year.”
That line hit me. Because it exposes a truth most people ignore: How much you earn is capped by the kind of business you run.
You can work harder, stay longer, even get smarter - but you’ll never make more than what your business model is designed to carry.
Life is so unserious. One minute you’re praying for certain things, years later you have them and don’t even notice. You just keep wishing for more. Desire never really stops — that’s why gratitude matters.
