“They must see Americans as strange liberators…They watch as we poison their water, as we kill a million acres of their crops. They must weep as the bulldozers roar through their areas…Somehow this madness must cease. We must stop now.”
MLK, Beyond Vietnam
@Steven_Swinford Can we cut the crap about "helped remake Labour", the last election was an absolute shoe-in, an actual donkey could've beaten Sunak. He got lucky, they barely had to lift a finger to win.
@VinnieSull1van Blah blah, capital letters, tax, moan, unfair. Right wing troupe. It's redistribution of wealth. If you don't want inheritance tax, fine, no pension. "But we paid all our lives". Blah blah. Yawn, sigh.
@gingereejit@harmless_human@hugoamnov@IAPonomarenko He's just upset that he can't get away with comparing the "worlds leading nation" with Tuvalu or somewhere to prove how great it is.
End of the day US is outspent by Europe but can't stop moaning and crying about how much aid it's given. Blah, blah.
@FrankieWard Lol snap, we're the same (though sans birthday). It's a Christmas tradition to rip the place apart just after boxing day right? Good luck! Kudos to Matt's DIY shirt.
@Nicksy200@victoriafinan Doesn't mean the policy is wrong, but in it's current form is politics of spite. Not a sensibly thought out policy. The Eton set will be fine, they always will. What's £18,000 when you can pay £80k a year already. It'll be the parents of SEND kids that will be worrying.
@Nicksy200@victoriafinan Saying "Oh X is rich enough blah, blah" is the same as "all unemployed are workshy blah, blah", it puts prejudice ahead of informed views. I know an independent school with 40% special needs which may close.
As a writer and campaigner who has spent 25 years working on climate, there is something I feel I need to say about the fossil fuels divestment campaign targeting Hay and other literary festivals. I’m saying it because it seems like no-one else can. Blog:

@Wednesday_IC @braintree_ That is the issue in a nutshell. Many people do need help. Have the actions of a vulnerable person been recorded, monetised and used to advance a career? If so, it raises a fair few moralistic questions. Was enough done to protect the person's identity? It doesn't look like it.
