Wounded Palestinians gathered to plead for medical evacuation, amid Israel’s ongoing ban on the entry of prosthetics and severe restrictions on specialized medical care into Gaza.

Israel is simultaneously preventing most of the 18,000 patients on pre-approved WHO lists from leaving for treatment abroad.

Israel, which under the 2025 ceasefire agreement Israel was supposed to reopen the Rafah crossing for the movement of all civilian passengers, including medical evacuations, only allows a handful of people to cross daily.

The crossing remained closed on Saturday. Gaza health officials say more than 1,500 patients have died while waiting to be evacuated for treatment. About 10 patients die each day.

🚨URGENT: Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya’s life is in immediate danger, Physicians for Human Rights Israel and his lawyer warned Saturday, after a prison visit revealed the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital bearing fresh, severe injuries to his head, eyes, ears, and neck, so disfigured his own attorney initially struggled to recognize him.

🔹Attorney Nasser Odeh, who saw Abu Safiya Thursday at the underground Rakefet interrogation facility in Nitzan Prison, said he arrived shackled hand and foot, escorted by masked guards, struggling to breathe and speak, unable to sit upright, and repeatedly on the verge of losing consciousness.

🔹Abu Safiya told him that after his Supreme Court appeal was heard June 10, four or five guards entered his solitary cell at Ganot Prison and beat him with a hammer and batons, and that since his June 24 transfer to Rakefet he has been beaten daily, losing consciousness several times without receiving medical treatment.

🔹“This is the last time you will see me,” he told his lawyer. “They brought me here to kill me. I don’t see myself surviving. This is the end.”

🔹PHRI notes the escalation in torture began directly after Abu Safiya challenged his detention in court. He has been held without charge since December 27, 2024, under Israel’s Unlawful Combatants Law.

🔹The group has appealed to Israel’s attorney general and prison service demanding his immediate transfer, an independent medical examination, and an urgent judicial visit “before it is too late.”

Very sad to learn that Mona Khalil died after weeks in the ICU following an Israeli strike that levelled her home in Mansouri. She was a very well-known environmental activist and dedicated her life to saving endangered turtles. She stayed in the south despite Israeli strikes because of her love for the land.

She was a civilian, a renowned figure but Israel targeted her house.

The attorney repeatedly stated that he could neither see nor hear Dr. Abu Safiya after his “captors turned off the camera.” He also informed him that some people were present in the courtroom to show their support and that they were waiting for the judge to arrive so that he could be brought back on screen before the court addressed the appeal.

Israeli authorities have transferred detained Gaza doctor Hussam Abu Safiya to solitary confinement at Nafha Prison after his legal team challenged the extension of his detention, according to his lawyer.

The lawyer says the June 3 transfer was punitive and has left Abu Safiya without necessary medical treatment.

Healthcare Workers Watch says at least 83 Palestinian healthcare workers are currently being held by Israel, including 75 from Gaza.
