I have now been fully onboarded into Afriment Internship for cybersecurity.
This will guve me more handson in cybersecurity to fully refine my skill and become more knowledgable in the field @AFRIMENT
I could tell you what Event ID 4625 meant.
That didn’t mean I could investigate it.
For a while, I thought learning Windows logs meant memorizing Event IDs.
4624 = successful logon
4625 = failed logon
4688 = process creation
Day15- Today I learnt abt splunk and how SPL is the key element of splunk for turning a large volume of data into practical results. I practiced how to use the SPL on tryhackme by using the index to filter fields search results e.g index=windowslogs , index=vpnlogs

“A scanner doesn’t just say, ‘you’re vulnerable’
it gathers the clues that help us understand why.”
Think of it like a security inspection of a house 🏠
The scanner asks:
Who are you? → Host
What system are you running? → OS
Which doors are open? → Ports
What’s running behind those doors? → Software/services
Is there a known weakness? → CVE
How dangerous is it? → Severity
Then comes the part people sometimes forget:
Finding ≠ Fixing.
The scanner gives us the raw facts.
The security team still has to:
Analyze → Prioritize → Patch/Fix → Rescan → Verify ✅
And this is exactly where the attacker/defender mindset connects:
🔴 Attacker: “What information can I learn about this system, and what can I exploit?”
🔵 Defender: “What information is my system revealing, and which weakness should I close first?”
So here’s a small challenge 👀
You scan a server and find:
Windows Server + Port 443 open + Apache 2.4.49 + High-severity CVE
👉 Which detail would you investigate first, and why?

My focus today was on string operations and variables in Python.
I learned how operators behave differently depending on data types. For example, + performs addition with numbers but acts as a concatenation operator with strings, while * can replicate strings when combined with integers. It also highlighted a common pitfall, trying to combine strings and integers directly leads to type errors.
I also explored variables, how values are stored, initialized, and overwritten in memory. Understanding assignment statements made it clearer how programs keep track of data during execution.
Another important area was naming conventions and rules. Writing clean, descriptive variable names (preferably in snake_case) improves readability and makes code easier to maintain, especially as scripts grow more complex.
It’s still foundational, but this is the layer that everything else like automation, scripting, and tooling will be built on.

I learned how threat actors move from reconnaissance and weaponization to delivery, exploitation, installation, command & control, and ultimately achieving their objectives.

A former supervisor referred me for a cybersecurity role at an organization where I used to work — and today, I applied. 🛡️
